Morning Bugs! How are you all doing? Was out and about early this morning. Had to follow a friend as she dropped off her car for service and than take her to get a new mailbox. I don't know how many of you have this problem where you live but we have a certain segment of bored adolescents that insist on destroying mailboxes either by beating them into scrap with baseball bats or 2x4's or by blowing them up with firecrackers. For entertainment I guess. We are lucky as our box is off the road. This is the third mailbox my friend has had to replace. Some people have resorted to building brick structures to encase their box and shield from harm although I know of at least 1 of these that has been blown up with a fairly large firecracker. Where these kids parents are or what they think their kids are doing at 2am I don't know. Enough of that.

Thinking of Susie this morning and sending prayers her way for a quick recovery. I'm off to read the board. If the weather allows I am going to see a high school girls lacrosse game this afternoon, my first. My niece is the coach. Right now it is pouring down rain and I fear I am a fair weather fan! Have a great day every buggy! KaCee

Are the postal boxes provided by the Postal Office? If so, I do believe it is a federal offence to destroy one. But, if your bored teens are like the ones around here--try and catch them. Kathey

no Kathey, you buy your own. It could be a federal offense for messing with them though especially if there happens to be mail in them at the time. We have a growing problem with mail theft from private mailboxes here too. Our area is pretty rural in places, long winding country roads. There is a waiting list a mile long for post office boxes here. You almost have to inherit them! I kid you not! KaCee

You're right Wren, I guess they don't have enough constructive things to do. Have a good evening. KaCee

hi kacee,

we had a problem here, but it was people who would deliberately run into the mail boxes. ours was never damaged but the people that live across from us have had to replace theirs several times. so, he asked if we minded if he moved them all onto a much stronger pole. we said fine and there hasn't been a problem since.
