An amusing-and true-story of my DH and

his new lawn mower. It's not really a long story, more a picture I want to paint for you. OK, DH has been shopping for a riding lawn mower for weeks. Finally made his decision, and it was delivered this afternoon during the tornado watch...I called him at work to let him know, and oh, the excitement. It has a motor and it's all shiny new, what more could a boy ask for? Oh, and it makes noise. As soon as he could close up, here he comes home, ready to enjoy. He does one strip of the frontyard, and then comes to the backyard. I don't know why. So he insists I come and have a spin. Now I've been in dirt already several hours getting plants set out before the rain storm/tornado/hail/strong winds/whatever sweep down on us. But he was so excited I had to show some enthusiasm (it's a lawn mower...!). So I "drove" it around, and made some nice remarks, then headed off to do a little more with my gardening. I look around, and he's trying to talk Maggie...our dog for those who don't know...into riding with him! DH is normally a fairly quiet reserved sort of fellow, runs his own business, a responsible citizen. I said I really didn't think she wanted to ride, she's even scared of the regular mower, and even the vacuum. Oh, no, he says, she thinks it's exciting. He held her, got on the mower, and rode with her for a couple of minutes. He stopped, so she could get off, but then when he got back on, she came and begged to get back on with him! Really, she did! So there they were, picture it: a grown man, still in his nice clothes, riding on his mower, with a fluffy little white dog sitting in his lap. He was holding her securely and talking to her the whole time. Guess they were both happy. Men and their dogs.

So no tornado came for us, and the afternoon only got prettier as it passed towards dusk. There is a wonderful arts festival going on at the park downtown this weekend. It's music of all kinds, dance, theater, artwork, and lots of food. Of course, it always rains hard in the days before or during the festival, it just wouldn't be our arts festival with dry ground! But we've always gone from the time the girls were little, and as they were older, they performed there, dancing or singing, playing in the youth orchestra or doing theater bits. It's always been a great place to see local people perform, and now, more and more, people from outside the local area. It's a family-oriented weekend, young couples with babies, older people, teenagers in groups. They end the weekend with fireworks and the city orchestra performing. It is a very nice weekend. Guess we'll wander down at some point, if I can get the DH off his new toy! Maybe I could let him ride it down there, but I am not sitting on the back of it!! LOL Good and happy weekend to all of you. Seren

Love it, Seren! And yes I can picture it! Our little black (part terrier) used to ride on everything that moved! The lawn tractor, the big garden tractor, the trenching machine, the kids' wagons, sleds, wheelbarrows and more importantly, the motorcycle. We kept a folded towel on the gas tank of the Honda...that was his seat! His firm belief was that all modes of transportation belonged to him and we were his chauffeurs!

Thanks for the memories!

Big grinzzzzzzz......

Seren, you sure have a great way of telling a story. Loved the lawn more tale. Men and their dogs indeed!

So glad to hear the tornadoes misses you. I was thining about you as I watched the Weather Channel this afternoon.

Have fun at the festival this weekend -- wish I could join you -- that's my kind of thing to do. Enjoy.....BB

Is it a small dog? Maybe DH can get one of those baby carriers that goes on your back for the dog. The push mower and vacuum are coming at her (attack). She is behind the wheel on this mower so no monster is attacking her. It does make a cute picture. Kathey

Seren,

I sure hope that you get a picture of your DH and the dog the next time that they mow the lawn. What a cute picture that would be.

Glad those T-watches did not turn into anything more for you all.

Hugs,

Dannie
