Hope you are having a sunny afternoon where ever!

My DD2 is the mother of three girls! two older ones are in school, First is 6th grade and the other is 3th! If you e-mail with suggestions it would help! They are failing because of having to move so much! That part is a long story but DD2, IMed with me this morning and said that she is grounding the 3th grader one week for each F.

My feeling is that staying in her room is no good unless she is working on something that, will help her in her reading, which is her downfall! I use to take my girls to the library's, Summer reading program, when they were that age, the two younger ones anyway. and one is in college studying to be a teacher and the other is making straight A's in high school and she is'nt even the book worm. I believe that learning should be made to be fun to get them to stay interested! I'm going to send my DD a copy of one of my typing tutorials to let them learn how to type and get involved, so they can type back and forth to grandma and friends!

I think this could be a good tool for them!

Do you know any sites to send to her to use for the girls practice reading, there must be something for age related subjects that will interest them!

I all so think that when they know how conserned we all are for them, to do well in school

that they will try harder! They live in South Louisianna. Thank you, SusieK

I have no teaching background but do know that Boys and Girls Club offers tutoring (at least here they do). If they are having problems with reading, have they been tested for dyslexia? That is a problem with so many people and they don't know they have it. Kathey

Hello, Susie. I think Mom should ask the teacher for help. Her job is not only to grade and evaluate, but she should also offer guidance. She might even loan Mom some materials to help. Ask the teacher about afterschool or tutoring programs or maybe about summer school. If the teacher can't help, ask the principal. Moving a lot can cause emotional upsets at loss of friends, etc., but the general assignments should be the same within a state.

I would offer some sort of reward system for improvements made while completing extra work. If the child works hard and shows improvement, encourage her with rewards.

Kathey is right. Mom should ask about testing to determine if there is a disability. The state of NC recognizes 18 different types of disabilities.

Hi Bren! I think that is good advice also! I will talk to DD2 and ask her if she has done any one on one talking to these teachers at their school! She could have problems with hearing or eye sight! nearsightedness was my problem in school! I will e-mail you more details! Hugs SusieK
