We sleep with the bedroom windows open year round and the last couple of months we have been hearing the frogs at night. We have a stream about 75 feet behind our house and it must be because of the mild winter but it sounds like there are thousands of frogs out there. More than previous years. We will be reading before falling asleep and the frogs will be croaking away and all of a sudden stop, dead silence, nothing. We turn and look at each other and wonder what made then stop! Then all of a sudden they all start up again! Like someone has thrown a switch.
The local TV and radio stations are full today of the return of the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln to its homebase in Everett, Wash. just north of here. Heart-warming scenes. Families reuniting. The whole city/county have turned out to welcome and celebrate. I was talking to my brother earlier and he commented on how different it was from the welcoming he got returning on his aircraft carrier in the 60's and 70's from Viet Nam. So sad. Such a contrast.
Hope all bugs have a nice day! KaCee

About my company. He is a politician and he is in town to attend a political function tomorrow. That means that his DW and I can go shopping, whatever.
Wish I could leave our windows open, but with my allergy to pollen, I'd be sneezing all night!
Enjoy your evening.
Shari
Yes, Your brother is so right on the return of the Vietnam vets, Its ashame in my book...Because they fought in a war and got NOTHING...the worse war in my book for nothing.. wren
I wish we could sleep with our windows open year 'round. We would freeze our little tootsies off if we tried that in winter. During the HHH days of August, we'd die of the heat and humidity. In spring it's possible unless the pollen count is high. Fall is the best time in New England, I guess.
The spring peepers are singing their songs here, too. A true sign of spring.
Have a good night, KaCee.

Your nature description sounds so lovely. By the way I have it on good authority that every group of frogs has a conductor who signals them all to sing or be silent in unison. Neat huh?

Poof!!! I'm gone!!
