Anyway, I just had a package delivered to me from my sister who lives in Idaho. I love it so much, I wish you could see it!! First I opened a computer made "feel better" card with my sister's darling little granddaughter on the cover. She's adorable with longish blonde hair and she's laying across my sister's kitchen table doing fingerpainting. There's all the pretty red, blue, yellow, etc. colors of paint smeared on the large white paper that covers half of the table, and sweet little child is lying across it all on her tummy with her knees bent up behind her showing her bare feet and lifting her pretty little head up with a sweet smile. Just darling!! Inside along with a greeting, is another larger picture of her too.
Sister also sent a cute little chubby angel made of the stuff that looks like dough art. She's holding a flower with a little ladybug on it. So cute!!
Next I opened two packages with two items in each and it's all a set of four. Okay, try to picture this...a block of wood about 1 3/4" X 2" tall and 1 1/4" thick. It's painted off white stain and sanded off to look old. Along the bottom and one side are green leaves and vines. On top of it is a piece of wood about the size of a small sewing spool, but rounded and smaller at the top than the bottom. There's a thin dowel painted brown coming up from it 2 1/2" tall and it has a torn rag tied to it that is tiny green/cream checks on two and tiny red/cream checks on two. On top of two of them is a wooden hand carved flower, one a sunflower and the other a blue flower. They are also stained and sanded off somewhat. Then on the other two there is a ladybug. Yes, a ladybug!! The body is black and sanded off, with barn red metal opened wings that are kind of like corrugated, and the dots are punched out. There are letters, one on each of the bottom blocks. The letters are made of thinish metal bent into one letter on each block and painted brown and looking kind of like twigs. Now for the best part...they spell out "BUGS"!! Adorable!! I just love them!!
That sure is a nice way to cheer up my day and so unexpected too. :o) Oh my goodness..I just looked out my window and the sun's coming out and ghe sky's clearing up!! Hooray!!
All this week is the annual River Festival here and it draws hugs crowds of thousands. We normally do get rain during the festival days, and sure enough we're getting some this year too. They already moved two of the bigger events for this evening indoors in one of our convention centers that is right there downtown where the festival takes place. Looks now like they didn't have to do that though.
It's such a fun time and takes place right around the river that passes through the west side of our downtown area. It's so pretty there and I've spent many fun years there before. Several restaurants in town set up booths in two big areas on either side of the main river bridge and it's so fun to get the yummy food and either walk around or bring lawn chairs and eat it. I haven't been there in a few years, maybe next year I can go back again. One of my goals for as long as I have lived here, is to be in the river run that takes place on Mother's Day morning every year. That kicks off the River Festival. Maybe next year I'll get to do that now that I'm getting my feet fixed. Left foot surgery, other foot is in a brace.
Okay, guess I've been jibber jabbering long enough for now. Hope your day's going well. Mine's looking up!!
~~~Hugs, Susie
Glad you feel a little better. We all have our blue times, but fortunately, they usually don't last too long. Yes, we all need a little sun some times.
We have a similar river festival which runs until Labor day on the Milwaukee River downtown. You can rent different types of boats, watch water skiers and water shows and fireworks. And there is free live music all day until about ten at night. If you work or shop downtown it is a nice place for lunch. We usually go on the night they have a 60's band.
I'm so glad your sister uplifted your spirits today. Kathey
Wish you could see my gifts too. They would make a nice gift for our Ladybug Gathering gift exchange. :o)
Your river festival sounds a lot like ours here too. It's supposed to be nice Saturday night and that's when the symphony orchestra plays on the steps of the convention center along the river and then there's a grand fireworks display. Gosh how I loved going to that when our kids were young. Very good memories of all of that.
Its difficult enough being housebound, especially when your use to being on the go but to have it be gloomy also doesn't help.
Glad that the sun is coming out and soon you'll be out and about again.
Susie, keep dreaming that dream -- that you will participate in that race someday. You can do it, I know you can! With your "new" feet and all that weight you are losing, it will happen for you, and you will be so proud of yourself. And all us "kids" will be proud of you too! Love you, Suze.....BB
