It was one of THOSE mornings

I had to run to the mall to get a gift certificate for a graduation gift. Don't know this young man real well so we thought a gift certificate would cover it all and one from the mall especially as he can use it at any store. Well, went over there first (about 45 minutes away) and did a couple of other things too. I took the truck because I wanted to stop at the nursery on the way home to get some potting soil and some plants. (Hemmed and hawed about this as it was great convertible weather but decided on the truck.) Pulled into this nursery that is in the next small town over about 30 minutes away and a lovely place. Turned the engine off, pulled the key and started to get out. Ding, ding, ding, little chimes going off, must have forgotten to turn off lights, No lights are off, bells still going off. Hmmm...key is out of ignition...look down at it in my hand and realize that only half of it is there. It had broken off in the ignition. Geez!! I think, maybe I can still turn it on and drive home....no, not enough to turn but I do get the little piece out of the ignition. Go in and ask to use phone, long distance call (my cell was in my car, at home, naturally!)and luckily DH was still at home and drove over with the spare key (45 minutes later). Oh yeah, like an *idiot* I had LOCKED the door when I got out(after I had discovered the broken key, guess I was just on auto-pilot!) so couldn't even sit inside the truck and wait for him! Truck starts right up (I had done my shopping while waiting) and per DH's instructions I went right to hardware store, had two more keys made (tested them, they both work) and bought one of those key hiding boxes. I am so glad that he wasn't in Seattle or somewhere. Who knows who would have been home on such a lovely morning to help me out! DH didn't have much to say at the nursery, I expect he will be more talkative this evening when he gets home. Oh well, the truck and keys are 13 years old. It just wore out! I think I will get a third key made for my car and hide it also... Just in case. Geez!!
I hope you all have a great afternoon! KaCee

I read about your DD's place being broken into. Yes, that is such a feeling of being violated, and, naturally, she thought of Peyton, and how he would have scared intruders away. I'm sorry that happened to her.
I've got to get out and get one more graduation gift. I know what I want but haven't found it yet. It's a collection of bathroom things for our niece to use in her dorm: a caddy, matching flip flops, towel and cloth, etc. Haven't found the caddy yet. Usually find them at Bath and Beyond or whatever that store is, but they weren't in yet last week. I have to assemble everything, wrap it somehow, and get it off in the mail to Arizona. Maybe tomorrow. LOL See, I'm getting very lazy with all this free time! Glad you got some extra keys made. Better to have extra than to be needing one! Seren

Being on my own is really fine so far. How many years has it been since I had only myself to tend to??? Not that the hours I work these days, or cooking just for the two of us is such a big deal! But it's just not having to plan everything around DH's schedule, and running errands and doing things for him all day because he's too busy. It's strange to be able to head out to shop when I want to, or watch whatever I want to watch on TV (I always defer to DH with TV because it's *his* time to relax), or read in bed with the light on, that sort of thing. It'll get old in a couple more days, but it's a nice treat. Already, I find that I don't really want to watch anything on TV anyway!! But a friend and I are having a pizza and wine get-together Friday night to catch up on all the news with each other. We usually just meet for coffee every few weeks, so this is wild and crazy for us...is that pitiful??! I'm spending more time at work because *things* tend to loosen up a little when the boss is away...And I have a fair amount of work to catch up with anyway since I was so busy while DD was home.
I talked to the travellers today by cell phone!! I had told them to be nice to each other: the DDs are to take care of their Dad and take some responsibility off his shoulders; DD1 is to help with navigation and trip planning, and let DD2 handle food and meal planning. So when I got them, they were a few miles from Stonehenge, and the DDs were laughing so hard they couldn't talk. Seems DH is managing the driving very well, but still something was hilarious...a roundabout maybe?? I called later, and they had gotten a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Bath, after dining at a Burger King! DH says actually those are all British owned companies now, so they were having a truly English experience...He had seen some of the same sights, and said he even recognized the road, that he and I travelled many many years ago. Tomorrow they begin their exploration of Wales. Tintern Abbey is a major destination, as DH and I were there years ago, and DD1 has wanted to see it since she was in kindergarten. I don't remember why, but it was one of the first places she could identify as a "place" to visit. Now I am thinking well, I should have gone with them!! But, truly, it was all I could do to get *them* ready. I don't think I could have done that and gone, too. Plus there are the responsibilities here at home. DH can be sure that everything here is handled, whereas if we were both gone, he would be worried and phoning back to the business constantly. This works well for us. Maybe some day though.
Thursday night I will most certainly be watching the beginning of The Amazing Race!! Love the scenery, where ever they go. Give Anna some hello pats and scratchies from me. Seren
Glad you talked to the family. Sorry you couldn't go but understand. We have a roundabout on the island! There was a big fuss about that when the city proposed it a couple of years ago but everyone seems to handle it fine. Standing joke about islanders referring to it as a "roundabout" like Europeans instead of a "traffic circle" as they are known almost anywhere else. Most of the islands neighbors(Poulsbo, Silverdale, Bremerton) think we are "uppity". Sometimes we are, I guess. G'nite! KaCee

We've all had those kind of days every once in awhile..you were lucky DH was home.
The only problem with those little key hiding boxes I have found is that you can forget where you put them and there you are crawling around on your hand and knees looking and feeling under your vehicle..the other problem I have experienced is that they can fall off..with alot of todays keys they are electronic and cannot be duplicated and then of course you have so much plastic on todays cars it hard to find a place to put the little box.
Since my DD use to lock herself out of her car on a regular basis years ago, I always had a spare key..so if you have someone else close by you could provide them with a key also..
Of course the chances of that happening again are slim but it doesn't hurt to be be prepared...
