Once Again Kulani Has The Computer Fixed

Due to the holiday weekend there was a delay in the power supply delivery. But I couldn't be on the puter anyway. After the chat I was last on I got up out of my chair to go to bed and could hardly walk. I couldn't support my weight with my arms on my crutches and my legs would barely support my weight. My bed is only about 15 feet from the desk and MY legs were in such pain. I didn't know what was going on. I finally made it to my bed but was unable to get into the bed. I couldn't even lift the phone to call my DD to come help me so I sat on the side and cried the rest of the night. When she got up to go to work she helped me into bed. I felt as though someone had taken their fists and beaten me up and down all of the muscles in my body. My hands and arms were so heavy and sore and were just getting worse by the minute. The only thing I could attribute it to was a new cholesterol med that I had started two days before called pravacol. I tried to reach the Dr but he wasn't in and finally called the druggest that has filled all my scripts since 1984 and asked him if just 2 pills could cause such a violent reaction. He said that he had never heard of one but to be on the safe side not to take any more until after I talked to the Dr. And it would take the same amount of days for the medicine to get out of my system as doses I had taken but he wasn't sure how long it would take for all of the symptoms to go away. Well by Sat I was at the hosp because my right ankle felt like it had a blood clot and was all hot and swollen and to make a real long story short after spending a week and a half in the bed with my legs elevated and forcing fluids I am happy to say I am pain free and no clots and can now be out of bed and the computer is once again fixed. We are going to unplug it after every use and not trust it to the power surge protectors and static protection plugs and all the things that they said to put on the stupid thing to keep it safe which by the way haven't helped so far. The only thing I am not doing yet is repacking it into its precious little cow box every night to protect it.Nesting in its styrofoam cradle. That is what I told the last technician at Gateway was the only thing I hadn't done to protect the stupid thing from breaking. The longest time a power supply has lasted is 3 months and the shortest time is 3 hours. So even unplugging it may not even help it because the time before last it broke while I was using it. If this one breaks I am calling the States Attorney and making a formal complaint against Gateway because it will be the 6th time in a year the power supply has gone out and the 7th time the computer has broken. Enough is enough. We are both on the mend and happy about it now and happy to once again to be able to come to the garden to share with you all and find out what you have been up too I am so far behind and may never catch up. I need to go to the Archives and read about what has been going on. I hate to find out if anyone has passed on and bring up sad times but I need to know so that I don't inadverdantly hurt someone by asking about a loved one that was ill before I was out of touch. I would like to know about the babies that were expected and find out if they all made it here safely, and how the are all doing. How the divorced and seperated children are doing, I am just so far behind. I feel like a newbie all over once again, for the third time. Well I have taken enough time for now. Love to all. Kulani

Surge protectors, the little strip kind that you get in the hardware store are ok if all you get is the normal peaks and dips that we all have in our electric service. Like if you once in a while get a little light dim or brighten but but for a computer you really need something that has a battery backup so that if you have a outage or a bad spike it will give you time to turn off the computer the right way. And those APS units are kind of expencive unless you live in an area that does have power problems then they would probably be cheap... http://www.apcc.com/products/category.cfm?paramcategory=13&web_displayed=all
Here if there is a thunderstorm on it's way I always shut down and then unplug everything including the phone line because lightening can come through that an do damage too. I would say that a power supply that had to be replaced 7 times there would be a reason in the computer for them to go bad.....It is not that delicate cause some computers are passed on and on with the same power supplies.....I would say that cow may have had a birth defect......lol....
Boy, I sure hope you are feeling better. And that you find out why that happened. I take Lipitor I think for colestrol. But I think from the sounds of it I am going off the hormones after listening to the nightly news tonight sounds like that HRT thing just isn't working and could be making women worse off than better.......
You take care......Janet
I have sure needed some cat advice! Actually I think we need to bring in the Pet Psychic for all of our animals, and she can negotiate a peaceful shared living arrangement with them! To refresh your memory: DH and I have a west highland terrier Maggie, and a very shy gray 4-year-old female cat Kit. DD has 2 cats, Bella, an outgoing sweet year-old female, and Doc, a male, about 11 years old, verrrrrry loving and sweet. DD is away for the summer working, and so, naturally, the grandkits have come home to nest with their grandparents.....well, let's face it, that's the way it is. LOL They've all been here together for a week. The 2 summer camper-cats are living in my daughter's bedroom and the bathroom which ajoins it. There is a mesh door/screen across the bottom half of DD's doorway to keep Maggie out, but they can all see each other. Maggie lies on the hallway floor most of the day looking at them. They stay in the room. Kit does her own thing; she knows they are there, and it doesn't seem to upset her at all, she just hasn't made their acquaintance. I would like for the cats to feel free to come on out and join us, but Maggie gets so excited, barking and wagging her tail and jumping around, they are intimidated. So I leave them all be. I go in every morning and play with them and clean up their litter box, feed and water them. Then again in the afternoon, and at night, I spend a little time with them. I also spend some time with Maggie outside the door giving her affection and talking to the cats and to her. (OK, for you non-pet-lovers, I know this is sounding ridiculous, but hey, Kulani and I understand these things! ;o) ) I also spend time outside with both Maggie and Kit every day, giving them quality time. Now, Kulani, I'm hoping all this attention and also lack of attention, will lead them to get used to each other in their own time. Right now, I am home alone. In a week, DH returns home, and a couple of weeks later, another DD, and later her boyfriend. So I can't spend all summer pampering little animals! The humans will be making demands shortly! OK, so give it your best shot, Kulani. Any tips and recommendations will be appreciated, unless you just tell me I'm crazy for being in this situation, because there's nothing I can do about it at this point! DH "almost" adopted another little dog a couple of weeks ago. He thought it was a stray, and was already in love with it, when he found its master. That would have been a great little surprise for me...
Don't let your computer fail you now! You have important expertise to pass on!
It sure is good to have you back. We have all missed you so much. Take care. Seren (oh, you may have known me by my old name, what was it??? Reisender maybe??)
Poof!!! I'm gone!!

I remembered who you were when you said your gkitty Bella was there for the summer.LOL I can understand the timidity of the little ones. They will be alright with the attention that you give them and they will be ok with the attention of Maggie as well as long as she doesn't get to them and hurt them. The barking doesn't seem to scare them as much as we would think it is just talking one species to the other, it is the growling and snarling that causes the concern with the kitties the most. As long as they don't retreat under the bed or dressers and refuse to come out to eat or be petted and loved when you come in to see them they will be ok with what ever time you spend with them. Cats usually spend 15 to 20 hours a day sleeping any way. Just make sure they aren't in the room in total silence have a radio or some kind of music for them to listen to so they aren't in isolation. I know most people think that is silly but animals and people who are deprived of human voices become antisocial after a time and we don't want that to happen to your babies. If all of the cats have been neutered you won't have any territorial problems which is the problem that arises when you bring new cats into the house. I have territory disputes on top of me in the morning sometimes when my female cat wants to sit on my chest and one of the young males wants to sit on the same spot. Well actuall he wants to sit right under my chin and pretend he is my nightgowns fur collar and she is the fur flap on the front of the gown. I am usually asleep when the discussion begins and awake very soon thereafter. They get along most of the time except for when it comes to sleeping on top of me. I seperate them and give them a place on me all their own and we all go back to sleep for a couple of hours. I am just thankful that all of the cats don't get into the dispute at the same time. They don't use claws and teeth just hissing and hopping around and snarling at each other and that is more than enough for me. I hope I have helped you with your cat problem.
As for the medicine problem. I just know that now I can't take any statin medicines now along with all of the other meds that I can no longer take. I am so grateful the soreness went away because the doctor was afraid that it could have caused that muscle disease called "Rabdomylosis" because I had such a violent reaction to such a low dose of it and it came on so fast. But since all of the side effects went away within 2 weeks thye are pretty sure I don't have any long term lasting effects from it. Thank God. I can't remember praying so hard for anything in a long time as I did to have him take that pain away. The last beating my ex gave me wasn't as painful as what I went through with that mess. I don't think I had a muscle in my body that didn't hurt. I thought I hurt before but I didn't know what pain was until 2 weeks ago. I have lids on my pain pills to keep me from indescriminately opening them and taking too many unknowingly and I couldn't open the bottles to get any out to help to relieve the pain. If I could have even lifted the cup of water to have swallowed them that is how bad a predicament I was in. I hope I never get in that kind of mess ever again. I am not sure how much a 32 oz cup of water weighs but it was too heavy for me to lift. Thats enough complaining. Thanks for listening. Take care. Love and Aloha Kulani
We have bought 3 different types of surge protectors. first the cheap kind then the inexpensive, and then the expensive one. None of them worked, when the third one went out the technician told me I had to pay for it because my limited warrenty didn't cover storm damage. Because I didn't take proper precautions to protect it during a storm. I asked him how he knew I didn't take proper care and he knew because that is the only way that the power supply would go out. So I bought the new one. Well that one lasted a total of three weeks, and I woke up one morning and tried to turn on the computer and it wouldn't turn on. It was three weeks before Thanksgiving and I didn't have the money to buy another one and with the Holidays coming and I have a hard time handling the holidays because I have had so many deaths in the family during Nov and Dec and Jan that I didn't have the energy to fight with Gateway over the computer and it threw me into a depression. That depression lasted all the way into April. I woke up one morning in April and decided that day was the day to pick up the fight and begin all over but the problem is that every time you call you get a different person. I had talked to 15 different people and I had to explain the problem every time I called. This time I started out with "I am sick and tired of having to call and explain to every technician working for Gateway what the problem is and not getting any resolution to the problem I want to talk to someone with some power to solve the problem." I ended up speaking to a vice president in charge of marketing who listened to the problem and said I had been mis-led back in Oct and should not have been made to pay for any part and would be refunded the money paid for the part and sent a new one. But first he wanted me to speak to the supervisor of the tecnicians and see if he could help resolve the problem. They ended up sending me a new hard drive and when it got here it lasted a whole 3 hours before the power supply in it was fried. When I called them and told them they tried to blame it on my Scrabble game that I had loaded into the system and the air in the house and the weather and phone lines and you name it. Said we didn't have it hooked up correctly I was furious. And then when they said that I had to pay to send it back to them for repairs I really hit the ceiling. I said it was thiers to repair they had just sent it to me and it should have been sent in good working order and I didn't feel I should be the one to pay to have it shipped back to them. I was back on the phone to the vp of marketing once again. Told him once again I sure did wish I had bought Dell. Within a few minutes there was a pick up order sent out to ups for my hard drive for 3 days at my house and within 6 days it was back at my house repaired. The only problem was it didn't last a week before it was broken again. WE got back from the hosp early Sun morning and DD turned it all off we had left here in such a hurry we forgot to turn it off. And when she got home from Church Sun afternoon she turned it on and nothing happpened, and right away we knew what had happened because it had happened so many times before. There hadn't been any storms or anything. None of the clocks were flashing so the power hadn't been affected in any way at all. So there was no reason for the power supply to have been affected by the power in the house. Other than the one time when I was playing the Scrabble game the computer has been turned off when it has blown the power supply. But we aren't taking any chances thistime we are unplugging it at night now and if it blows it will have to do it while I am on it like the other time. At the first sign of inclimate weather I turn will turn it off and unplug it right away. Well I guess I have griped about my computer enough for one night if you read all the posts you will get the whole story.
I am allergic to so many things and now I am allergic to one more. I can't take any thing that ends with "col" at the end of it or, "cillins","furs","dines",any kind of darvons fake or real. I have to be so careful when getting a new prescription because I have now found out that most dr and nurses don't know what is in most pills and will tell me anything to get me to take the medicine. I trust my pharmacist to tell me the truth about the medicine that the dr is giving me. There has been a couple of times that the dr has given me things that would interact badly together and the pharmacist has called the dr and told him that the medicine would kill me if I took them together. So when I couldn't get ahold of my dr the other day I called my pharmacist and he told me not to take any more pills but I had already decided not to any way I just wanted to know how long it would take for it to all get out of my system. As for HRT I am so glad that I never took any synthetic hormones I just went through menopause naturally and did it the way the Lord intended for us to do it. I don't know how good or bad it was because of all of the other stuff I go through all of the time. I do know there were some nights where my bed was soaked from the night sweats and my sleep patterns changed and I hear tell I was crabbier than usual but thats life. He was old enough to move out anyway.
When I yelled at the cats they learned to get out of the way real fast. I never threw anything heavier than the phone book and it is only 6X9 and is a half inch thick. So all in all I guess it wasn't too bad. Well I guess thats all for tonight. Well I guess it is tomorrow now anyway. Thanks for your help and concern. Kulani
As far as your computer problems, honestly I have two Gateways and bought one for my DGS and haven't experienced any problems with them. Who replaces these power supplies for you when you get them? Has anyone checked your computer itself, is it possible that there is a short somewhere..also have you ever tried plugging it into another outlet. I can understand getting one bad power supply but your continual problem would suggest to me that there's something else going on. You mentioned that they sent you a new hard drive and that the power supply in it fried...as far as I know a hard drive doesn't have a power supply of its own...wish I were closer I'd try to help you out but if its possible I'd have someone check out your computer, especially the cable connections inside..
my experience with technicians is that there are good ones and bad ones and that they don't have all the answers...just like doctors...and trying to resolve a problem over the phone, especially one like yours is difficult. Is your computer still under warranty maybe you can press them into sending someone out to check the computer out.
Take care of yourself and I hope things get better for you soon.
Val
How frustrating it must be with your computer problems too. Hopefully the power thingie will continue working now as it's supposed to. Good luck with that!!
