In light of all the news stories that have come out about hormone replacement therapy, the main reason I started it was because of hot flashes....then now find out that hot flashs usually go away after about a year.... then now all the other things it was supposed to help and it don't.....makes me mad. Then to have the doctors tell you that the risk for brittle bones is worth staying on it now not only don't it help with that but it may be causeing dementia. One of those things were you are damned if you do and damned if you don't....Geeee.....Janet

You know I was thinking that if I confront the doctor I had better have more ammo than Tom Brokaw I think he flunked pre med didn't he?lol....

I thought I would check out your board too.

I am on 400 E a day anyway. But you know wouldn't it be something if I got off HRT and didn't have my head problem?

I am not prone to breast cancer, not that I couldn't get it but.....

The hot flashes usually give up after a while...

Using HRT for bones is silly because of the calcium pills and they are cheaper too.....

Could cause dementia....

I have problems sometimes getting to sleep while I am on it......

Those are good reasons not to take it so he is going to have to come up with better ones to stay on it, isn't he?

I am not a nut about natural stuff either... I have a friend whose family gets into all these things that come around and they swear by them. Her dad at one time was taking like 60 or more things a day...he said he felt better.Better than what I don't know he died.

Her sister is on this kick now for something like ground elk horns does wonder for something, I never listen to it. I am sure it is good for the person selling it....lol.

Too much of a good thing can be bad too. I have a hard enough time remembering to take my pill at supper time. That is why it lasts so long....If I had to(like some I know) take herbs and what ever at certain times and measure and tote them around it won't happen. Just like when they told me just drink skim milk.....when you come from a background of milkmen and live in a rural area there is no way I am drinking blue milk with no taste I would go without....2 % is as low as I go. Or I go without.

It just isn't fair..why don't men get hot flashes?.......I am off for a second opinion..Janet

Janet, I had no standard to compare my experience to because all the women in my family were surgically altered before their time. I am the only one to go all the way from puberty to menopause without a problem of any kind. I didn't go to the dr complaining about how long it was taking I just dealt with it month by month. All my friends had quit years before me and I was still having the party every month. And then one month the celebration ended and for 6 months it was gone and then one day I had a surprise and then for 6 months it was gone again and once again surprise it was back and that was 2 yrs ago and so far it hasn't been back and everything checks out ok and I am hoping the surprises are all over. I think 43 yrs of celebrating is long enough for any one person. The reason I call it that is my mother called it a little gift God gave women to make them special. And when we needed any kind of supplies we would just say it was time for a birthday present and she would know what we were talking about and it would show up the next day. We could even send our brother to the store and he would buy them and we never had to say the dreaded word "kotex". That was back before it was a household word and sold on prime time television. When we used a thousand different words rather than say what we really meant because to say it would be the height of embarresment. Can't spell the word that begins with and E and ends with ism that means what I just said.

But from all I have seen about HRT is that all it does is keep women having periods well past normal menopause time. And men do suffer menopause of sorts it just manifests itself differently and comes out as road rage and mid life crisis and all those other fancy names that they give the things that men do to show out when they reach the ages between 40 to 55. Men couldn't handle what women go through on a daily basis. Let alone having babies. I know some of them could handle the taking care of them day to day but the carrying them and the delivery is out of their league. There are some women out there that it has proven too hard to take care of them after the pregnancy and delivery that is why all this menopause and stuff has to be taken on a person by person basic plan. Not one thing will work for every one, what will work for one won't always work for another. Enough Kulani wisdom for one evening. I will go for now. love to all.Aloha for now Kulani

Janet, I do take an HRT, but I also take these:

1 Vitamin B complex 50 each morning

1 Vitamin B-6: (50 mg) each evening (there is 50mg of B6 in each B complex 50)

1 Inositol (500 mg): Vitamin B8 (1 each morning and evening) - seems to help me rest better

1 Calcium (1000mg)/Magnesium(400mg)/Zinc(25mg) blended tablet each evening

I also take a regular Calcium w/ Vitamin D daily and Vitamin E and Vitamin C

I added the Calcium/Magnesium/Zinc blend to my daily intake several months ago and my migraine headaches have almost become non-existant! I cannot swear that this is why, but I'll keep taking it - just in case!

I used to feel bad for 'old folks' who had to take so many pills every day - - now I are one!!

Is there a reason why you take your calcium/mag/zinc in the evening? I take that combo too, but have always taken it in the morning. Just curious..Susie

Hugs,

My druggist suggested it might help me sleep better and I think it may do just that. Plus, a lot of my migraines seemed to develop at night and the magnesium is a migraine stopper for me!
