On Monday night, the annual retirement dinner was held for our school system. It was very nice with music provided by one of the school choral groups. Food was catered by *Two Fools In A Kitchen*, a cute name for some ladies who always do a great job. Actually there are now more than 2 because their business is growing so quickly. My DGD did attend and was very good. After an hour and 15 minutes, she got a little restless, so we pulled out the magic markers that only write on special paper. I had bought a travel kid and it was new to her, so that handled the restlessness for the remainder of the night. Our supervisors spoke our praises and introduced us and then we were presented with plaques and a lovely gift wrapped crystal apple by the superintendent and the Chairman of the Board of Education. After the first lady received her goodies, she walked to the microphone and made a speech. I could have smacked her. Last year and years before, none of the retirees had spoken. Of course the rest of us had to think fast to come up with a speech. Now after that she was asked to pose while pictures were made with the Sup and Board member and the boss. Of course I hated that. Since I am at the county office, I was last and had all that time to fret and be nervous. I finally said to heck with it, there is no way out and just tried to enjoy the rest of "gamma's party" as DGD called it. As it turned out, I was fine with the speech, smiled for the photo, and we all took DGD out for ice cream afterward to celebrate.

I haven't had a lot of time on the board this week. Every day has had a celebration meal of some type. This morning, it was breakfast to celebrate the monthly birthdays in our building. Also, this week we started the new summer schedule of working 7 to 5 for 4 days with Fridays off. Monday turned out to be 7 to 10 and then I was too keyed up to sleep well. Hope to spend some time on the board the weekend.

I have briefly checked the board and want to read more now. Hope all is well with every bug. See you this weekend.

Brenda, what a nice week you've had. Glad DGD was good last night. It's great how little surprise gifts keep them busy. Enjoy the rest of your week. Hugs Lynda

Thanks for sharing that, Bren. Love the name "Two Fools in a Kitchen" lol. I know your speech was fine; sometimes less preparation and more just getting up and saying a little from your heart is the best way to go. Maybe you can relax now, and things will slow down for you. Seren

Oh Brenda!! Smacked her, indeed. Too, too funny, BUT, I can imagine how you felt. I am very sure you did a beautiful job with your impromptu speech, though.

What a nice evening and the grand being so good. You must have been proud of her and you should have been proud of yourself as well.

I did miss seeing you around. Glad you are back. We chatted a little tonight on the MSN site. It was strange but nice. You know, not a lot of strangers popping in.

So happy that the evening turned out so very nice for you and that your DGD aand other family members were able to share it with you.

Now help me out here, are you retiring...because in your post your mention the summer schedule...

Sounds like a great evening! I won't easily forget my retirement dinner. A few of my close teacher friends got together and wrote a poem about me. It wasn't exactly a roast, but it was pretty close! I will have to share it with you when I see you *in person*.

Enjoy all of your retirement events. They are so bittersweet!

So you've retired, but you're working through the summer. Is that correct?

I agree, Janet. I remember as a child watching my grandmother do the crossword puzzle every day in the paper. This was after lunch when she would take a break from working in the gardens or in her flowers. She was so alert and active until the age of 89 when she had a stroke.

Thank you all for your good wishes and nice comments. I am working through June, and I may continue working part time or maybe even full time for another year. We have had big changes in our system and administrative leadership. My supervisor is also retiring. I may or may not want to remain in this system. If not, I will apply to other systems in my area. A reception is being given for 2 of us in the county office who are retiring. This will be sometime in June. I am enjoying the parties this year. Last year I would have had such doubts.

So glad all went well, Bren. And I just know yours was the speech most appreciated ... it was last and, I'll bet, short and sweet :). glad you topped "gamma's" party off with a trip to the ice cream parlour - a lovely end to the week, I'm sure.

Rest well.

hugs
