Here is Part I (of two) of my trip report. Then I'll head off to read some of the posts I missed - I know I'll never be able to read them all!! And I'll be back later......
Arizona trip May 2003 - - Part I
Left home at 4:30a.m. on Wednesday morning, May 21. Departed airport headed for Phoenix at 8:20a.m. Arrived (3 hours and 45 minutes later) in Phoenix at 9:30a.m. Ric met me at the airport. My friends met him and then we headed off in different directions, they to Glendale and we to Mesa.
Wednesday evening Ric and I loaded his big ‘star gazer’ into the back of the pickup and headed north into the foothills. We stayed out there until about midnight - that is where I called Judy from! She told you that she asked if we had a blanket with us - the answer was no - but we did have a rug!!!
We gathered up what we would need for an excursion to the Grand Canyon that night and Thursday morning bright and early we loaded up the motorcycle and headed north! Our route took us north across the Salt River and up through Payson where we stopped to visit the Tonto Natural Bridge ( http://www.pr.state.az.us/parkhtml/tonto.html ). Then west through Camp Verde to US-17 where we headed north again. We stopped to see Montezuma’s Castle ( http://www.desertusa.com/mzm/ ). From there north past Sedona and Flagstaff on US-17, then north on AZ-89 to the small town of Cameron. We stayed two nights there ( http://www.camerontradingpost.com/ ) - it is a beautiful oasis in a very desolate land! The restaurant served lots of fabulous food at next to nothing prices! If you are ever up that way, be sure to stay there!!
On Friday morning we grabbed a quick breakfast and headed north towards the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, making one stop along the way to have a look at the Little Colorado River Gorge, not much water to be seen there! Then on to the GC (about 60 miles from Cameron). Incredibly beautiful in spite of a fairly heavy haze. Back to Cameron for a much needed rest from M/C back seat riding for me!!
On Saturday morning we got a bit of breakfast, packed up the cycle and headed north to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (about 160 miles). Again gorgeous. Less places to stop but spectacular views! Back that afternoon to Tuba City, where we stayed at a Quality Inn. Nice rooms and very good adjoining restaurant.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time. I would love to visit Arizona and also have heard so much about Sedona.
My sister has a girlfriend who lives in Prescott and she visits her ever year, just the other day we were talking about my joining her next year.
My DD#2 from NC and her family have been out in Tucson, Arizona for the past two weeks...her brother-in-law is a professor at the University. They went out there for her nieces graduation from high school and for the past week they have also been visiting the Grand Canyon and Sedona...maybe you passed them somewhere. They are due back today.
Glad you had such a great time and welcome home.
