Good Sunday evening......m

Sooooo many messages, so I kinda do a skip and a jump through some. I hope all are doing well. I have had a busier week with my son from Davidson NC here for a visit and I also visited my DDIL at the Relay for Life Walk on Friday. That was very touching and very emotional. We are also excited as this same DDIL is expecting (just...so it will be a long wait! lol). JJ...I am trying to get a bit of a walk in and today walked for about 20 minutes. It is still strange weather going ons here. Soo much rain, wind and storms. Today was mostly windy with some sun and clouds...very dramatic. I love a breeze...even a good stiff breeze...stirs things up and feels so good. I plucked a weed or two but still not like I am used to normally. The mosquitoes here are over the top...awful. The painting question....I am looking into what it will involve to paint the tongue and groove paneling in the living room and wainscoting in the dining room and hallway, up the steps. It has become really dark cherry color over the years and after almost a year of lying on the sofa most of the time...I am waaaayy over the darkness. I want to lighten it up...garden colors, etc. It will take so much preparation before we can even paint and all the stuff that will have to be moved etc. ...so have to be up to that too. Also will need new carpet after that ( I have hardwood floors and would love to have area rugs, but dont think I can do that with Daddy and his walker... lots of decisions and knowing when I feel I will be up to all this. Oops..dinner is ready...see ya.... Frannie

I came back just in time to say hi to you here and only be a day late and not a month or more. Just the other day on Room by Room they painted over paneling so they should have something on the HGTV channel about what you have to do to prepare the paneling for the paint so it doesn't peel off or bead up.
I know about living in darkness most all the houses we rented had paneling on the walls and no windows most of the time it was like living in wood lined caves. So when we were having this house built we had specific requirements I could hardly wait to get into a house with windows and drywall. My daughter made that one of the conditions of sale that we had drywall in all the rooms and the builder just looked at her funny. Like he was thinking "Lady what else would we put on them" but he said ok whatever you want is ok with me and we have it on all of our walls. And she wanted all of the woodwork painted white. No metal or plastic or any cheap pressed wood stuff to cut costs either. We didn't get flimsy hollow core doors. I got Berber carpet and solid wood cabinets not the pressed wood kind. They put in a handicapped bathroom for me at no extra expense. I can't tell you how much just being here in this house has helped me with the depressions that I used to go through. I have only gone through one since we moved in here in Dec on 2000. And that was just this last Nov thru Apr and I made it out myself without medicine or having to go to the dr. Maybe if I had gone to the Dr or used meds I could have come out sooner but coming out by myself is better because it will help keep me from falling victim to another one so easily. When we heal ourselves we have the stamina to keep up the fight to heal ourselves when something else decides to attack us. So keep up the good work fighting the good fight and I will remember you in my prayers. Lots of Love Kulani
I just saw your message from Sunday and have a few comments.
We had very dark panelling in our den which made the room soooo dark. We had been looking at it for 15 years and like you, got tired of all the darkness. When DGD #2 was born 3 years ago and I stayed up in NY with DD for a month, DH had the project of painting it light while I was gone. Franni, it turned out beautiful and now, I can't believe how light the room is. He painted it a very, very light pink, but of course, had to prep the walls first. I think it took 4 coats in all. One prep, the other 3 (or maybe it was only 2) to cover. Well worth the effort.
I know you are going to be happy with the results of yours also. A beautiful way to celebrate your accomplishments during the past year.

I was so happy to see your posts regarding decorating, food , walking etc. I am planning to lighten up here too. I thought I would do the bedroom a light sage green, and the living room a mellow yellow with white trim. About walking, well, as soon as this knee stops acting up, I might be able to go a bit. You have motivated me to do at least 20 minutes.
