Butter is better!

The aspirin I gave him this morning did him no good. He didn't move more than 2 or 3 feet from his spot in the den floor all day. So when DH came home, he and DS took him to the vet. Boy that was a chore -- hauling a 95 pound pup down the stairs into the garage and getting him in the car -- but they did it. DD was crying -- her BF was here at the time, consoling her, TG, as I was kind of a mess too just after they took Butter away. Paced the floor until he returned an hour later. You can't imagine how happy I was to see him in the car and DH and DS smiling as they drove into the garage.

So.....the vet gave him a shot of cortisone and pills (Prednisone, I think it's called) to relieve the pain of his arthritis, which is not only in his back legs, but also (the vet thinks) in his spine. The poor old guy ain't in the best shape of his life, but we have hopes that he is going to be okay for the time being.

The shot he got is already working, he is moving much better, and the vet said we should see more improvement after about 7 hours. Hopefully, the Prednosone he'll be taking will do a better job of relieving his pain than an aspirin.

I want to thank ALL of you for your comforting words and hugs this morning. Patti, what you said to me was lovely -- thank you.

Kathey, we are talking about your ramp idea, and will probably do that on the steps. You're somethin' else, ya know it? On Sunday you solve my spice storage problem (which I am LOVING, by the way) and today, you come up with a great idea to help my poor arthritic pup. I am so glad you are in my life.

All of you who have had to make "that decision" about your pets were so helpful. We have had numerous dogs and cats, and we have never had to put one down -- they have all lived to be old and they died of natural causes. I know that I will have to face that someday with Butter, and I am so glad that you guys are here, for that will be so hard for me, you can't imagine.

I am off to read a few posts now. Later, dear friends. Thanks once again.....BB

Hallelujah, BB! What a happy post! Good for Butter! I am so happy for all of you, and can just imagine when they drove back home and you saw the smiles on their faces! Extra hugs all around...and then maybe you and DH will need a margarita or two to calm your frazzled nerves! LOL What these dear little pets put us through!!

That Kathey is a keeper, isn't she? Smart thinking on her part, to come up with the ramp idea! Duh!!! Excellent.

Well, ok, guess we can all relax now. Seren

BB, I'm sorry I missed your earlier message about Butter. You must have been worried sick about him. I'm so glad that the vet was able to help him today and give you the Prednisone to continue to give him some relief. Great idea about providing a ramp for Butter. That should make going up and down off the porch much easier for him. (Nice suggestion, Kathey!)

My poor old McDogg hurt terribly in his last few months too. It isn't easy to see it happening.

Hugs to you, Beebs (and the rest of the family too!). Give the Butter-dog a hug from his Auntie Kt, plez!

Beebs, great news. That's what I get for going the wrong way on the board. So happy to hear Butter is better. Hopefully, this will keep him going for a long time to come. Hugs Lynda

I'm so happy for you all that your doggy is doing better! I hope that Butter lives a long and happy pain free time with you all! I liked the title, Butter is better! That is true in the kind you eat to! It may be fatting, but it does taste good. and gives all baked goods a much better taste and texture them margarine!

My new client was so happy to have me help her today! She is very nice and planes to have me again, maybe once a week.

Hi, BB. Know what you mean about Butter, I lost a lab retriever several years ago. I remember hoping that my DH would bring her back home even after she'd had 3 operations for cancer. But it wasn't to be. Now we have 3 dogs, an old foxie cross who we think is about 18 years old. (according to her dog registration) and 2 other dogs. The foxie lies in her beanbag all day, has to be put out side to go, and is almost blind. She used to eat like a horse but just lately has not been so well. Her back legs have almost gone but my DH still will not hear of putting her down. I'm always surprised that she survives the winter. This one may well be her last. But she always seems to manage to stay alive somehow.

Give Butter a hug from me,

Lesley

Thank you, Lesley and everyone.

Lesley, I am sorry about your foxie's health going down lately. It's so hard to see that happen to our four-legged friends. Give her a hug from me, and I will give my Butter your hug...:-).....BB
