Her nest only has two eggs in it now. Something got the baby bird and three of the remaining eggs. Where it is it is very protected, so I am not at all sure what could have done it! She didn't throw any of it out of the nest or I'd see evidence of that. I was worried about her trying to house six fledglings in that little nest but I sure didn't want her to lose her babies! She is still sitting on the eggs that are left though.

I got my morning glories and moon flowers planted out by the mail box last evening. Hope they survive the transplant. Also planted two pots of tomato plants that I started from seed too. The zinnias I seeded before I headed for Arizona all came up just fine - then died! Guess I'll have to buy something for the big half barrels out front! If I seed out there now it will take too long for them to reach the blooming stage. Ah well, it was worth the try!

Egads! My DS turns 42 two weeks from Saturday and I haven't the faintest idea what I am going to get him. Guess I should have saved his Arizona present and given it to him then! Not!! I'll go looking one day next week, or tomorrow after brunch. He is easy to buy for.

I just created another new page for the Menopause Oasis - this one about insomnia - it is one of the many 'things' we menopausal women have to deal with!!

Also added some of the recent recipes to our Recipe Site.

My buns are tired from sitting here today!!!

Hi Kt, your finch story reminds me of two finches I used to have--George and Martha. Martha pecked George to death....literally! It was very sad.

I can't believe you have a 41 yr. old son. Did you have him when you were 12???

I will definetly check the Insomnia Page. I don't have it often, but when I do, it's a real pain in the neck.

Enjoy your evening.

Hugs,Shari

We have had a similar problem with robins that nest close to our house. We discovered that crows were the culprits. Sad but true!

I hope the last three eggs amd the hatchlings make it!

Have a good night, Kt.

Hate that something happened to your little birds. I think a cat got into a wren's nest in a vine by my back door. I don't like that harsh look at nature.

My DS's BD is next Friday. I need some ideas for him, too.

Sorry to hear that, Bren. There is not a cat in the world that could reach this little nest! That is why I put the bowl where I did. I never dreamed a crow might fly up under there!! I am now on a death watch!

Kt

There are a lot of scavenger birds that will steal baby birds and eggs from a nest when the mom and dad are gone food hunting. You do have a daddy bird as well don't you?

My kitchen cat got out and we couldn't get her to come back into the house and she was chasing and killing the birds in the front yard. We don't have any trees or bushes for them to land in or build nests in they would just land in the yard. Before she got out of the house she would sit in the house and watch them through the storm door running around the yard. One day there was about 50 Robins out in the yard. I think she only managed to get 3 before she came back into the house. But during the time she was out she did manage to get herself pregnant and we have 3 kittens. Just what we needed, all boys though so we shouldn't have too much trouble getting rid of them. Cute little fellas one gray, one gold and one gold and white, all born on the first of June. Twelve days early all of the other cats were born on the thirteenth all different months but on the thirteenth. We wern't quite ready for the babies when they started to arrive because of the date but we quickly got ready. Early that morning we heard a yowl and all of the cats just sat there looking innocent and we didn't know for sure if it was Smudge or not because no one moved. Then about 6 hours later we heard another one and I figures she must be starting labor and looked for her and found her under the desk in the living room where she has taken up residence since she has come back into the house. Put down a Puppy Puddle Pad and a towel and she curled up on it and promply let out a yell and had a baby almost just that fast. Within 3 hours she had all of them and it was over. She is a good mommie her favorite one is the little gray one she uses him as a pillow that is how I know he is her favorite. She keeps him close where she can keep an eye on him.LOL. Well it't getting late and I need to get to bed so I can get up for Church in the morning.

Lots of Love Aloha Kulani

Oh darn, that is such a sad part of nature. Poor Mrs.P.Finch! I hope whatever it was doesn't come back and get the other birdies after they hatch. :o(

Your DS's going to be 42? So that means you were around 11 or 12 when you had him right?

...Luv ya Katilu, Susie

Insomnia you say? Funny your should mention that. Do you notice what time I am posting here? LOL! Woke up when I heard DD going to the bathroom at 3, and finally gave up on going back to sleep. Got out of bed at 4 and here I am. Grrrrr....I see a nap in my future today.

KT, I'm sorry about the Finch family. Do you think the culprit was a cat?

My moonflowers are really taking off this year. I have them planted in a very large pot on the deck and they are already winding their way around the railing. I think I might have blooms within a week or two. Good luck with yours!....BB
