This morning I thought of something:
By all means, start training!
I'm going to toss this one up to the parents who have been there done that.
The every two hours on the dot method I used with my daughter (she needs discipline because she can be a bit of a scatterbrain) and it worked.
I dunno about the under 2 thing.
I agrre, if he showes interest,go for it. If you feel the eval and all might be too stressful, just back off a bit during those times.
For my DS, it was pretty quick. He just wanted to pee outside. So, depending on where you live, you have some time left. Yes, winter came and DS couldn't go outside any more and the problem was solved. (Until we went to Florida mid-winter and stayed in a high-rise. I caught him peeing off the balcony!!! Like father -like son)
However, night can present a whole new set of issues for some! My DD at age three decided no diapers at night and has had a grand total of 3 accidents...all of which she slept through. DS is 4.5 and not even close to ready for night time. I think he has had three dry nights in four years!

My son can say "pee-pee" and it is generally understood by everyone.
