How different are your characters from yourself? Are your characters people you wish you were like, or are they caricatures of people you know. Where do your characters come from?

This is a very interesting question and I´m really looking forward to the answers!

Usually my characters have some kind of fantasy side from them being aliens, witches, or super heroes. Another difference and I didn't notice this until a friend who has been reading some of my past stuff pointed out. Most of my characters have some form of a family to hold and I come from a broken family.
Are your characters people you were like, or are they caricatures of people you know?
In places of my work I can find where it's both. Example I have a character named Dominique which her personality is my own so that's obivously people I know. On the other hand characters such as Raven, Mikado, and Shadow King are not based on people rather based on a concept. Mikado and Shadow king based on the concept to be ruthless and yet effiecent at the same time.
Where do your characters come from?
Raven came from a dream I had of a woman turning into a bird. Many of characters come to me by Television or Video games though. Mikado was based off a character from Gundamn Wing called Char. Shadow king first came to me in a dream and I brought him back to life by life i mean by using him in a story. Shadow king was one of the villains in a story I wrote a long time ago. The story is long over but, the impact two of the characters from it made gave them immortality.
It's hard to say where Celine (Everywhere) com es from, but I know that Nick is the guy I want to marry someday personified.

Hi, Mims.
I agree that our characters sometimes have bits and peices of ourselves in them.
t_rae,
That's interesting that you noticed that most of your characters has background very different from our own.
What do you do to make to make your characters
Idealizing people is a great idea for creating characters ... bigger than life, better than we're likely to find in real life.
Do you find it difficult to give your characters flaws that they have to live and deal with?

I agree that our characters are a conglomerate of poeple and characters we encounter in all venues.
No ... I dont suppose I would want to be on the firing line.
