Lovely weather has gone

I can hear the wind howling outside this morning. An Alberta Clipper is moving through. The next few days will bring cold temps. (actually more normal for us) Next week they are talking of snow.
In November we only had .03 of precip. Normally we get between 6-9 inches of snow, so I can't complain. The harvest is WAY behind normal and the farmers have been busy busy trying to get the row crops in. Corn is being put in piles around. It can't be hauled out quick enough. Things were so wet that they were getting stuck in the fields and they have to put a lot of the crops in dryers. It all takes time. Now the ground will freeze and they won't get stuck anymore.
Winter has been shortened a whole month for me and that is good.

Love your reference to Alberta Clipper. At our house in mid-IL, we dread a Noreaster. If the snow comes from the NE, it goes right up our driveway, covers the front door and the walk to the back door. DH has to work his way from the front door with hand shovel, then get the snow blower out. We're expecting a mere 1/2" later in the week. I agree that extra month of Fall was nice, but worry that this just means that Winter is moved forward a month and there will be snow on the tulips in April.

You and me both!!! I'm thrilled that we got through November w/o snow! It's going to be 52* here and then the bottom falls out. I'll worry about April when it gets here. Maybe we can run away then.
It's a shame about your crop harvesting being delayed I hope they don't lose them.
I am always amused and a bit surprised when you talk about hating winter yet you live in SD.
Donna,
It's been warmer longer here too.

Hi Donna,
I can't imagine living where one has to dig out of snow on a regular basis which is why I behaved like a small child this morning when we had snow falling. There was no accumulation, but the flakes were huge and wet and fell heavily for about an hour and a half. The department secretary took pictures of me out dancing in the snowfall. If I can figure out how to, I'll post one. We're predicted for more snow on Friday and this time it's supposed to stick because it will get very cold over the next couple of days.
Hugs,
Melissa

Hi Donna,
Sounds like our coming weather here in eastern Washington is going to mirror yours. It has been getting down to the 20s at night and close to 40 during the day but they are expecting single digits or lower at night with maybe teens during the day, with wind, for the next week. We had about four inches of snow on 11/13 but a couple of heavy rains got rid of that. I don't like having the ground bare if it gets that cold. It really damages the plants, especially my roses, even though they are all covered. We have had record snowfall around here the last couple of years so will be nice to not have to deal with that but would like to have about a foot on the ground.
We had what seemed like a very long summer with 31 days over 90 - I prefer a high of 80 - and about a week of fall. Two early days of hard frost ruined the fall colors for us.
Stay warm and safe.
Ellen
I'm so glad you had a mild November.
