Treasures unearthed....

Today I decided to open Mama Blu's cedar chest (in her closet) to see what was in there. I found some more sweaters to give away but also some hidden treasures buried at the bottom.
I found my maternal grandfather's family tree dating back to 1735! Unfortunately it's all in Swedish and very hard to follow. LOL Also, my maternal grandmother's high school diploma. There's also a silk apron one of my great uncles sent back to my maternal grandmother from WW1...a sweater my mother knitted for my father when he was in WW2 (it's teeny tiny)...some parachute silk my father brought home from Japan when he returned from WW2...and finally the sweetest thing...a nightgown that is labeled to be my maternal grandmother's. It says the top was crocheted by her and was probably used by her on her wedding night...it's almost 100 years old (98 I think).
Everything is labeled by Mama Blu so I would some day find it and know what everything was. God bless her...what a treasure.

What a wonderful thing to happen to you. You are so fortunate to have these threads with the past to actually touch.
If you'd like to have the records translated, try posting to this board -

The account is free and this is where I found one of my sisters.

Blu,
What a find!!! You are very lucky that you DM was able to keep these things as a gift to you.
As far as that family tree is concerned, you should be able to find someplace where you can get that translated; if not in Chicago, maybe you can contact some place in Minnesota like the Swedish Institute.
That is a TREASURE!!
I loved hearing about all your finds.
That also reminds me that I have a Cedar Chest of dh's Mother in my garage.
Oh Blu, I loved reading this post!!. What a wonderful treasure trove. I hope you have luck getting that chart interpreted. 1735 WOW!!!
Hugs,
Melissa
Bless her heart. I bet that was like having an early Xmas present from Mama Blu. I would have loved being there to see them all and your face as you found each one.
You are so lucky to have such a history relating to your heritage.
((Hugs))
