Thank you all for the lovely birthday wishes. God gave me beautiful snow the morning of my birthday, friends baked cake and surprised me with cards and gifts. I celebrated with DD's family the night before because she had the day off. Last night I made chicken and dumplings for dinner (Tyler Florence's recipe). It was cooking while I posted. To answer all inquiring minds my hair is red and I laughed all day about getting 10 years younger instead of a year older for my birthday this year.
Now for the big news. I got a bonus from work. I am spending it on a trip to New York City the week of December 14th. I will get to see the city ballet company perform Nutcracker. I will get to see Manhattan dressed up for Christmas. I am required by any and all to make a morning appearance at the fence on the Today show. (I promise I will post what morning I am going to do this.) I'm going to sit on Santa's lap at Macy's. I'm going to a new play opening this week on Broadway starring James Spader (Boston Legal) and Richard Thomas (John-boy Walton), and if all my dreams come true I will get to meet James Spader and there will be snow, snow, snow! I will also get to visit with my aunt and cousins in New Jersey before I come home. I have been absolutely giddy planning this trip. I am so excited that it is hard for me to focus on anything for any length of time. I feel like a little kid waiting for Christmas morning only I get to open my present for an entire week!! I will carry my laptop so I can post updates and maybe pictures if I can figure out how. I'm as high as a Thanksgiving day parade balloon! I just have to pack...(remember that lack of focus??!!) Yikes
Hugs,
Melissa

Melissa, what a fantastic trip you are planning!

Hi Kathey,
I have visited Manhattan before with my cousins, but I have never been to the city at Christmas. A New York Christmas for this Texas girl is huge excitement!! I'll need a poster for the Today show. It will probably have an outline of Texas with a big ladybug in the middle so ya'll can spot me cause I'm sure I'll be all bundled up standing out in that cold. Brrrr!
Hugs,
Melissa
I got chills just reading about your exciting adventure. What a great way to spend the bonus - you will have wonderful memories. I don't regret the $$ spent on the canyon trip. Take lots of pix. I used Photoshop to put mine on a slide show and attached audio files I downloaded from iTunes. It plays on the TV and I can relive memories.
Red? How dark? What kind of upkeep will it need. White haired ladies want to know..
Jacquie
Hi Jacquie,
We chose a light warm brown as the base color and lifted the tips with strawberry. Starting with white as the base color, the warm brown is a deep auburn. No purple hair here!!! My hair grows really fast and I'm a little worried about the upkeep. By the end of the week in New York I'll be surprised if I don't need root care. I have maintained color by myself before, but I have an appointment the day after I get home. I'll let you know how it progresses.
Hugs,
Melissa
Happy Belated Birthday, Melissa!
Wow Melissa! What a fabulous gift to yourself! Your excitement is coming through in your words for sure. I would love to be joining you in NYC at Christmas time. I've only been there once for a weekend many years ago and don't remember very much about it. I would really like to go back again. Will you go to Serendipity for a frozen hot chocolate? It's a "must do." I can't wait to "share" this trip with you via your emails and photos.
I'll bet your red hair looks great with those awesome copper earrings you bought at the MOA! You be stylin' gf!!!
Hi Blu,
Frozen hot chocolate?!? I can't imagine LOL! Probably not. I'll be looking for the "hot" variety or carrying a thermos of coffee with me wherever I go. Remember this is a thin blooded southerner taking on a northern city in winter. I'm going to Barnes and Noble after work to look for
Hugs,
Melissa
You have an enviable jaunt planned, Melissa.
Woohoo!! Melissa I'd be giddy too. I would LOVE to be going to New York.
