I didn't buy one present

I had good intentions. First I went to the school to tutor. Found out the holiday break started a week ago!

Sigh, well I'd go on with my trip to Kohls to do a little last minute shopping with my 20% off coupon. I knew one thing I'd get for the house was a duplicate of the little basket that lets my use the new coffee maker with my own coffee, instead of their expensive pre-measured ones. Got it. Spotted sale on kitchen gadgets and picked up silicone spatulas that I can use in non-stick pans, plus a pump that mixes regular dish detergent with water to make a foam - this would save $$ down the road. I should have left then, but wandered through the store. Wound up with cool "biker" boots in my size (a rarity) at 1/2 off, bangle watch, small credit card wallet. Got DH a "grumpy old men" style red plaid hat for his snow blowing forays so I can see where he is. Oh yes - a bag of Ghiradelli chocolate squares in eggnog, peppermint bark, pecan pie flavor just jumped into the cart. I was so bad...

Now that's the kind of "Christmas shopping trip" I can get into! What a fun shopping day. I haven't had one of those days in a very very long time but I do remember how much fun they were.

I remember a long time ago, while living in CA, going Christmas shopping with a girlfriend. We went to 2 huge malls and shopped for TWELVE hours!! I kept buying gifts for my sister-in-law that I REALLY liked myself...and kept! Then I'd have to find something else for her. I finally did part with one of the items I had bought for her...but we couldn't believe we had shopped for that long. I could never do that now...my back wouldn't let me.

The store should have paid me to shop. I talked 2 women into buying the Keurig coffee maker, helped one woman find the kind of watch she wanted. She & I both find the little clasps difficult to manage, so I have switched to bangle type bracelet watches. She bought 2 - 1 for herself & 1 for a sister. Another woman with large size shoes like mine was drooling over the boots I was trying on & I helped her find a pair.

Silliest part of the trip was trying on winter hats. Another gal & had a lot of laughs. I have a large hat size, so they just don't fit right. Oh well, I'm really more of a hood person. When it gets cold & windy, I like everything covered up.

I could tell the difference in the women who were taking time off from work to shop vs. the rest of us. They were just like I once was - list in hand, very determined, no time to chat. Also, the women with their DHs weren't having much fun at all. So glad mine stayed home.

I love trying on hats!! I look SO bad in them but I keep trying them on thinking some day I'll find one that looks ok on me. This year I bought one of those faux fur headbands in black. It's really warm and covers my ears w/o messing up my hair too badly. I do have a couple of knit hats for the subzero days and of course have the hood on my OLD black down jacket that I put up when it's bad too.

You're right...Kohl's should have paid you today for all your "secret shopper" help!

I'd say you did pretty well for yourself. A bangle watch, biker boots, and new eyebrows, you'll be ready to kick it all night (l).

I wondered about that coffee maker when I saw their pre-packaged coffee if that was the only kind you could use. I drink so much coffee (too much) that a one cup at a time would never do around here.

What level of school do you tutor since they are out already?

The cup at a time are perfect for people like me who hate stale coffee. I'll gladly wait for a fresh cup.

I tutor through the Adult Basic Learning program with the school district. It is funded separately, so does not adhere to the district school schedule. I imagine they devised this schedule when they found fewer students & tutors showing up this time of year. We have several University students who are taking finals now.
