A lot of people I know have postponed Christmas because of the storm that is brewing. We have gotten a little snow so far but the wind hasn't picked up as much as they say it will....expecting 12" of snow but that is nothing what is something they are saying that we could have wind gusts in excess of 50mph...I know what 20mph does so if this comes to pass it will be a doozy..lol

First it was people calling I guess to say they couldn't get out of the air ports east of here. A friend of mine said her family was going to leave from Chicago and she called them and caught them as they were headding for the air port and told them not to come. We called our DDIL and told her we probably wouldn't be going out on Friday and she called back and said that she was postponing till January.... we may have short sleeve weather by then......global warming you know...lol..

Our house is in need of new windows and doors etc just like me it is getting old and run down...lol...but with my age I have not been able to keep warm this year, except for the comforter which I have to throw off a couple times durring the night. We keep the furnace set on about 58º through the night, but that comforter....whew....lol... but watching tv we freeze. The little ceramic heater works pretty well when we sit on the couch and cover up too. So, I broke down and bought an Eden Pure heater. And it is keeping things from being so shockingly cold in the house in the day time....and it is supposed to now use as much power as a regular little heater. We will see.. it is helping take the bite out though.

So since we are going to be home for Christmas I thought I would think of something special to fix for dinner. I am still thinking. lol...

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and if you are in one of those places that you had to call it off, hope you can freeze the pies and cookies....lol.

Janet,
Sounds as if there are a lot of smart people in your area. The idiots in mid-IL don't get it that this rain could turn to ice very easily. My SIL in FL had to cancel her trip to Chicago when she realized there was no way she'd land anywhere near there and didn't want to spend the holiday in an airport terminal.

I'm taking the 2 hour train ride north to Chicago on Friday, but it is seldom bothered by weather. What I'll find when I get to Chi. and need to take public transit is another story. At least I own warm snow boots and a long quilted cold that never lets in the cold.

Woo - taking the temp to 58 is brave. Ours goes to 62 and doesn't and the house usually holds at 65 until morning. We did have a cold spell a week ago where the furnace couldn't get the house up above 62 all day. That's when I turned the electric radiator on in the living room and pretended it was a fireplace. Been seeing ads about the Eden heater. What made you choose it over other kinds?

If our weather should turn bad, we'll be eating deviled eggs and jello for a week - LOL.

Take care & keep warm,
Jacquie, in mid-IL

Janet that sound so bad! We had one Christmas that the temps were down to zero. We had a fire going 24/7. The best investment we have did to the house is the insulation and the double paned windows. Now when it gets cold and we have a fire going, I have to go to the bedroom to get cool. Dh will run you out of the den with his fire..lol.

Just be safe and Come visit the garden Christmas, it's always warm here.

((hugs))

So far we haven't gotten the amount of snow they said we were going to but we have the wind and what we have is blowing. Some friends of ours were going to go just less than 60 miles away and got outside a town a mile or so and came back they said the ground blizzard completely covered the road and you couldn't tell if you were on the road or in the ditch and nothing was worth that headache...lol

The heater, first a friend of ours at the campground has one in their house. They live near Yankton and we went there for a soup supper before closing up this fall when we had a cold spell. When they turned it on in the living room I was able to feel the heat in the kitchen. It don't really heat the air like others I don't think it kind of warms everything else up in the room. Get to about 72º. He said that last winter he had his furnace turned down and after figuring it up this year he saved a lot on his heat and electric.
