"Raven" was an igloo...

I spent all day today at the hospital with my ex-DSIL while her DH was having surgery on a dislocated/fractured elbow. Two weeks ago he fell off a ladder at work and landed on his left elbow dislocating it and fracturing some bones around it. He had emergency surgery on it that day and it was casted. This past Mon. they went in for a checkup and to maybe get the cast off and the Dr. found it had somehow dislocated again and a 2nd surgery was needed. It was scheduled for today and my ex-DSIL asked if I could go with and be her 2nd set of ears. We left home at 11:30 this morning and surgery started at 3:00. It was supposed to take around 2 hours and ended up being 5 hours because it was so complicated. The Dr. ended up doing one of those external hinged "thingies" instead of a cast...the kind where the screws go through the bones and stick out on either side of the arm. What a mess. They are scheduled for a cruise in 3 1/2 weeks and the doctor said they can still go. This was supposed to be outpatient surgery but after 5 hours the Dr. decided to keep Mark overnight. We were both pleased with that seeing as while we were at the hospital we had an ice storm!

My ex-DSIL decided she wasn't going to leave her DH and was going to stay the night at the hospital. I had driven my car (Raven) separately because I'm on baby watch for my nephew. When the new baby comes I'll go watch "The Divine Miss M." I finally left the hospital around 10:15 p.m....almost. When I got to my car it was a solid ball of ice...including the tires!!! I finally got into it, turned it on, turned on the heat and blowers, let it warm up and started chipping away at the ice. It took a while but I finally got enough of it off to drive....slowly home. By then it was raining and the ice on the roads had melted. I stuck to the main roads which were salted and in pretty good shape. I was just glad to get home after a very long day.

Tomorrow I have about an hours drive to my bff's house for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I don't know what the heck the weather will do. It's always a surprise here!!!

Oh goodness Blu, you had to be so exhausted when you got home. It was good your ExSil had you there for her.

The weather certainly is harsh this year. Blizzards, ice storms, early freezes look like the portrait of this winter. Glad you made your journey safely. Take care Blu. Enjoy your holiday.

Hugs,
