They have already (6:00 pm news) shut down all the schools, libraries, and such for tomorrow, because of all the bad weather coming our way.  Our one Sand truck is on standby and people are making a run on all the stores for "supplies".  The item in biggest demand is bottled water.  I totally don't understand that.  ???
As Pam said, "cold is a matter of perspective". *smile

Here is the forecast for Bossier City.

Thursday...Windy. Mostly cloudy with a 50 percent chance of light rain...Light snow and light sleet in the morning...Then partly cloudy in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 30s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph with higher gusts increasing to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to near 35 mph in the afternoon. Snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch possible.

Thursday Night...Windy. Partly cloudy. Colder. Lows 15 to 20. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to near 30 mph.

Friday...Partly cloudy. Highs in the lower 30s. Northwest winds 10 to 15 mph and gusty.

Friday Night...Mostly clear. Lows 10 to 15. North winds 10 to 15 mph. Gusts up to 20 mph in the evening.

Saturday...Sunny. Highs in the mid 30s.

Just wanted to give you a bit of Southern Perspective when it comes to cold weather.
Me?  I just stay inside unless I have a hot flash.
When I have a Hot flash I go stand on the patio; the one good thing I've found about winter - Hot flash relief!

If we had that forcast around here we would be planning day trips....lol...

In the old days when there was a bad blizzard people would hunker down and know they could and would have to get by maybe a week before they could get to town.

Bottled water? I am with you, years ago they would go out and pick up some of that fresh snow, and it WAS clean, and melt it on the pot belly stove...

But today, in town , if you are snowed in 1 day that would be the most probably maybe a day and a half....for Pete's Sake. But people do panic, around here when they want to hunker down they go to the store and buy all the milk and bread. Equally as silly. I mean what happened to all those bread machines? You would think they would buy yeast and flour....lol.

I never left the house from the Wed...before Christmas till the Sunday after. And I didn't starve to death....We had to go to Omaha on Monday and I have been inside since. It really don't bother me, I have my computer, the tv, the stationery bike , but Del on the other hand gets ansy. He wants to go out when the snow is blowing 40 MPH and get the snow blower out.. MEN........lol

Anyway when we are "snowed in" I get to dig in the freezer and get rid of some of that old stuff in there. lol..That is always and adventure.....

HMMMMPH, I don't think that it is very nice of you northern Bugs to make fun of us southern Bugs at the time of this snow crisis. ;-0 You just never know what might happen if one slides on snowflake.

Deb with all my years working in retail, I've always been lol at the run on the grocery stores for milk & bread. Luckily, we have a well and rarely lose power. (the power company is good about keeping the limbs and all trimmed away from the power lines).

Do you get cold enough for your pipes to freeze? I don't like bottled water but alway fill up milk jugs with water when we have bad weather predicted. Got forbid I can't make a pot of coffee in the morning (l).

The only water we must keep in stock is "spring" water - for our cat! The local water treatment has so much chloramine that he won't drink it. As we dampen his dry food, this means he won't eat it.

The Curves site is in the center with a big grocery store. By the time I was done on Weds., people were streaming out of the store with carts just loaded. Wonder if they really think we'll be hunkered down for days here - the plows are going by regularly and some traffic is moving - slowly. If winds get bad & power lines go down, they'll have a lot of food to deal with. Before we had a generator or freezer, I was forced to put boxes of food on the back deck when power went out. All it took was one time of the neighborhood dogs digging into everything to convince DH we needed a generator. That generator has been the best insurance ever - only used 1x in 8 years.

Hi Deb,

I know why we have a run on bottled water here. It isn't the house plumbing we have to worry about. It's the city water lines in the older neighborhoods (like where I live). The mains freeze and break, then nobody has water.

We woke up to ice this morning. I made it into work without sliding, but that's because I have alternate routes that don't involve high bridges or overpasses. My biggest problem was the solid sheet of ice on my windshield that had to melt off before I could leave the driveway. And of course I had my bag of cat litter with me for walking across the hospital campus (the most treacherous part of getting to work). It is really cold because of the wind (learned how to dress for that in NYC LOLOL), but otherwise we are functional.

Hope you are having

Hugs,

Melissa
