As we have noticed with a few recent posts - it is still sometimes unsafe to open links in emails!!!
Please get into the habit of NOT opening any link in any email from anyone! --- Unless that person has identified themselves and the fact that the email link is *really* from them, just don't open it! Email that person and ask them if they just sent you something with an attachment or a link in it.
The best thing you can do, if you want to send a link, or any other form of attachment, is to identify yourself in the subject line in some manner that the person to whom you are sending it can be *sure* it is from you! Then in the first line of the post itself again identify yourself and clearly state that the link/attachment is really from you.
I have not heard of anyone getting a worm or virus from simply opening an email. I am not saying that it has never happened...only that I've not heard of it. BUT, opening any link or attachment can be disasterous!
This same thing applies to an IM link that you may receive. If you get something from someone you are IMing with, take a moment to ask them "did you just send me a link that says xxxxx xxxxx?" and let them tell you "yes" before you click on that link! It was an IM link that invaded my computer two years ago and cost me hours and hours of work to remove!!
Remember, your protection software (virus protection, fire wall, spyware detector) cannot always protect your computer from a worm or virus that you let in by opening an infected email attachment or link!
When it doubt - DO NOT OPEN IT!
