Back in October I spent an afternoon (3 hours) at the Dept. of Motor Vehicles "attempting" to get the license plate that was on Mama Blu's car transferred to my car. It doesn't sound like much but it a plate that has been our family since the 1920's. My paternal grandfather had this plate waaaay back when. When he passed my father got the plate and then my Mom got it. So, of course, I wanted it. I found a very helpful lady at the DMV who really went out of her way to attempt to make this happen. She said there were no guarantees I would get it because it's a low number (8088) and the Senators and such are snatching up these numbers when they become available now. (There was even a big article on it in the paper and I think I may have mentioned here on the board.)
The temp plate they issued me was due to expire next Tues. so I was getting very nervous. I checked on the Sec. of State web site yesterday and it said there was no information on it and no payment had been made. I thought for sure I was in trouble with that statement because I had all my canceled checks from the state. I was going to go to the DMV tomorrow and spend all day there if need be to get it straightened out.
Lo and behold my license plate showed up today!!! It made me SO proud to have that silly license plate that my grandfather so proudly displayed on his car all those years ago. I didn't expect to have that feeling of pride that I did when I opened it up! Sure made my day and I know my Papa is smiling down on me today.

You're right Karen...did bring so much joy. I could just "feel" my Dad smiling. It would have meant SO much to him that I made the effort to carry on the "tradition."
LOL...ya' think?
You know what is crazy? The license plate on my bff's car is 5441..!!
When we go out together it looks like a meeting of the minds!!
Woo - I'm late responding, been busy with Haiti monitoring.
That is so cool. I've never known anyone who had a plate that long. DH has his HAM radio call sign plates, wonder if the # will be retired when he's gone or re-issued to another Ham.
Glad you had a bright spot in your life. Goes to show what perseverance you sure have.
