Mice tales and a recipe....

One mouse was caught in a trap about a week ago, dear little Sadie the Satan cat caught one some time in the night.  I found it next to my shoe this morning.  Fortunately, DH was here to dispose of it.  We need to find a better bait, peanut butter doesn't seem to be working all that well.

We start our adventure in babysitting everyday today.  We've been so spoiled in doing exactly what we want, when we want, it will be hard to get on a schedule.  Talked to DDIL yesterday to make sure everyone knew where and when they should be.  It will be a big adjustment for them, too.  DS has been the stay at home parent for a long time, now they'll have to organize their time to do laundry, clean, grocery etc. plus working.  I'll help when I can, but they really need to figure the majority out for themselves.

I baked a little ham yesterday, plan on making soup beans tomorrow plus this recipe using some of the leftover ham.  It's really delicious and different.  Found this recipe in the food section of the Star Tribune, Minneapolis daily paper.

Gateau Au Jambon et Aux olives or Olive bread

l c. flour

l tbsp. baking powder

4 lightly beaten eggs

scant 1l2 c. olive oil

freshly ground black pepper to taste

8 oz. ham cut in small cubes

1 1/2 c. swiss or gruyere cheese grated

3/4 c. green pitted olives sliced

Prehest oven t0 350º.

Mix flour and baking powder in large bowl.  Add eggs, olive oil and pepper.  Mix thoroughly, using hands if necessary.  Fold in cheese, olives and ham.  Spread in greased loaf pan.  Bake for about 45 minutes or until it tests done in the center and is golden brown on top.

I'm going to use a combination of black and green olives and Monterey jack cheese today.

Have a great day everyone............TJ

TJ I am in the same boat. I have been so use to coming and going when I please. Now I'm tied to the house getting kids off the bus. I only have them for an hour or so, but still cuts into my "me" time.

I wrote the recipe down to make when I have a friend around it sounds so good but Del THINKS he don't like olives...lol
I hate mice. When we lived in a big 2 story house that was built mostly on the ground we had mice. I could set the traps and one winter I was seeing them almost every day so I got the traps and set them and thought "crap" I need something on there for them to get. All I had was butter but didn't want to trip them to start all over so I carefully dropped a Tasty O (like Cheerios) on each one. By that night I had 4 mice. I took a pair of pliers and closed my eyes and tossed them out the back door.....trap and all. Del emptied them and I set them again then I caught about 1 a week. Either they quit coming in or they wanted lunch.....lol

Retired and lovin'it.

Your dinner sound so much better than mine. I reheated leftover mac and cheese and pork chops.

You need to locate where those mice are coming from and close up that space. Stuffing steel wool into a hole in the wall works but you need to check the outside of the house to find entrance spots.

So, you are going to be a fulltime babysitter now. Good luck.
