My Olympic opinion from last night....

From my observation...
I'm loving that our kid from Illinois, Evan Lysacek, won the gold medal in men's figure skating!!!!! That was just too cool!!! Plushenko just can't handle it either. He's bad mouthing E.L. all over the place saying that he shouldn't have won because he didn't do a quad. Did you hear what Evan's mother said? She said, "you shouldn't win if the only thing you can do is a quad!!" You go Mom!!! I just wanted to slap that look off Plushenko's face at the medal ceremony. Bad loser.
Another thing that bothered me, and maybe it's just me, was when Shaun White received his gold medal and the national anthem was playing. Couldn't he just be respectful through the whole thing? He just had to act up and play "air guitar" toward the end of the anthem. I thought that was so rude. I know he was excited and all but I think the snowboarders kind of go by a different set of rules anyway. I think all gold medal winning athletes should be instructed to put their hands over their hearts and sing the anthem loud and proud!!! Just MHO...I think that would be nice.
I felt bad for Lindsey Vonn falling on her 2nd run. Glad she has at least one gold medal so far. Now to the Super G for her.
Ice Dancing tonight...I love it.

I had Bunko last night so had tivo'd the the Olympics.
I didn't see the men's finals...was tired from all of the bday celebration....so went to bed.
I had a floor set at B&BW last night so I recorded the Olympics. I'll watch it tomorrow. There is a dance every Friday night at the studio where I'm taking lessons, and I'm going tonight. Guess I'll record tonight too. I can zip through all the stuff I don't care about if I tape it. So far I'm very happy with the performance of our competing athletes. As to the antics of Shaun White (which I haven't seen yet) there will come a day when he'll wish he'd behaved differently. He'll become the poster child for "what not to do" and never live it down.
Hugs,
Melissa
Think a Russian should know when it is time to retire..... There are plenty of people that could go to that school.....
I was glad our guy won too......
Deb, that was just the compulsory (must do) tango ice dance. Every couple had to do the exact same dance so they could be judged against each other. When they do their free dance it will be much better. I turned it off too.
I usually like the Nordic ski jumping and got bored with that today and turned it off.
I agree with your observations 100%!!!
Plushenko is such a poor loser! I felt so sorry for Evan during his interview. He shouldn't have to defend himself. He should be able to bask in all the excitement. He was better, more graceful. He didn't need to do the quad. The Russian had a huge chip on his shoulder. His wife has demanded an investigation. Ruskies go home!!!!
As far as Shaun White. He's old enough to know better. He's won a gold medal before. But, did you hear about Lago the American bronze medalist? He was ASKED TO LEAVE THE OLYMPICS!!! He was horsing around at a party. Had his medal attached to the fly of his pants with a girl kissing it. Didn't he know there would be someone taking pictures??? Kind of like the swimmer smoking a bong.
I'm anxious to see the ice dancing tonight. DH was so bored last night so I switched to a Criminal Minds marathon....which I enjoyed, too to be honest. Overall, we've enjoyed watching the Olympics. So many people have said they have no interest whatsoever. But, it's only every four years and the athletes are remarkable, IMHO.
I have quit watching it!!
I agree..............the first on the podium, hand wasn't over her heart. It gave me that sad all over feeling. You'd think that some of their instructions would have been on protocol. Respect the flag athletes, respect the flag. Love Canada's anthem.
My buns are getting sore. I can move around after the Olympics. This has been verrrrrrrrrrrry interesting. I don't get the USA channel so miss hockey, curling and some other goodies.
Later. Just, Judy P.S. Lysacek has presented himself well at the interviews I've seen. He skates with such fire and determination. Nice to see him smile. He has time to show his whites now!
Yes, I did read about Lago and that stupid move of his and him being asked to leave the Olympics. What a dummy. When I was skiing, about 20 year ago, there were many places that didn't allow snowboarders on the same mountain runs as skiers because they were so disrespectful. They would just fly down the mountain with total disregard as to who might be just over the next crest and who they might crash into. This same disrespect has been shown by both Shaun White and Lago. Great athletes but no manners.
Katie...I agree, it's hard to figure out scored/judged competitions like ice skating. They seem to be a matter of opinion instead of skill sometimes and it does get frustrating. Not enough for me to stop watching though. I do love it and am so sure I can do a triple toe loop! LOL
