Next month.
I knew it was going to happen just not when but I am borderline diabetic. I mean why not......
While we were in OK my blood sugar shot up to the mid 200s. Usually I would be hard pressed to get a reading of over 100. So I have to test every day for a month.
So to check my A1C they put me on Metformen a while back and I had a good reading. So they did it again today....but I am going to have to double the med, and I know what I can and can't eat I really thought it was going to be more stress than anything..
Also, if the allergy thing don't settle down in this next month or I am going to ask for a shot. I mean I take a ton of OTC stuff mostly Equate from Walmart that does help but I am so tired of runny eyes and sniffling. I remind myself of those snotty kids in the doctors office......lol
You know when they did my heart surgery they took the vein out of my right leg.....well almost 3 years later my left ankle is swelling......Cripes......
So I could either get an elastic stocking like my grandmother used to wear to work or put my legs up very high like laying down and putting them up on the wall for 20-30 MIn a day.....which makes my knees hurt worse......lol
I am such a mess....
I did toss some cothes out today not enough to make any room but it is a start....Now if I could get Del to toss some things away.......like those Tshirts he won for walking back in 1990,91,92,93 etc.....and they all say the year too.... Yes he has some newer, new and some in packages yet.....but as long as they don't have holes ........Oh, never mind.......once in a while I will say OOPS when I am folding one and have to throw it away.....and he tells me I planned on doing that. LOL........I say........"Who ME?
Just like when I fix breakfast and break an egg......I will say, sorry honey I just broke YOUR egg.......lol.....

Retired and lovin'it.

Couldn't those tee shirts just kind of magically disappear?? You could plead innocent! LOL
I hope you are able to get your blood sugar down.
Janet,
I was diagnosed borderline a few years ago and put on Metformin. I tolerated it for 2 years, then it became a daily laxative. I couldn't leave the house some days. So MD said to go off for a few weeks and follow the carb/fat/protein percentages recommended by the dietician. I couldn't keep track of it very well, so purchased a meal planning program called FitDay (there are plenty of others). When I enter a meal, the carb/fat/protein numbers PLUS a pie chart that shows the totals for the day. It took me a few weeks of playing with foods to find good balance. For instance, instead of steel cut oats (which was all carbs), I now eat FiberOne cereal, with yogurt & fruit (a much better balance). My numbers are very much improved and I'm not taking any meds right now. I do work at getting 30 minutes of moving my body every day - walking, WiiFit training, hope to be out biking soon.
I've also found a method to control my lifelong allergies w/o shots. I cut Zyrtec (use generic) tablets in 1/2, then take them twice as often. I also use the Chloraseptic Allergy gel on outside of my nose.
Not advertising any of the products, but just sharing my experiences.
Can't help you with the shirts. Can you at least pack them away & get out of the way?
Jacquie
Janet....just take good care of yourself!
As for those shirts of D's -- do as Shari suggested and allow them to "disappear" one at a time.
I keep pretty good track of Del's meals. But when he first became diabetic I was following it with him. I was not so over weight then.....and my blood sugar was always very low. The doc told me to go ahead and follow his diet but to slip in some extra carbs or some M&Ms that would even me out.....I asked him how many? A pound??lol
Not being able to get this weight off after I quit smoking because of the pain in my back and know my knees is driving me nuts. I was always on the heavier side but but I am now about 45# higher than I was when I started T.O.P.S all those many years ago.
I am going to watch my food and when we get to the camper it will be easier because Del will be fishing and when I am up there I don't like to dirty a lot of dishes it is easier for me to fix something like tuna wrapped in a romaine leaf and have a fruit than at home when I can stick the dishes in the washer.....lol
That is what the doc had me on too... I have started with 2 a day. I am have trouble going most of the time, like only going every other or even 3 days. So relief would be welcome.
People always think that diabetics have to give up just sweets but the fact is that Del and I don't eat that many sugared things. But when it comes to things like potatoes, bread, and startchy veggies that is where we go the most wrong.
Since I have not been able to get the bread I like easily I have gone sometimes 2 weeks without bread.
Not being able to move is the hardest thing for me. I would love to bike ride. But that stationary bike is just so boring.....and I rarely use that word.... because most of the time only boring people get bored.....(that is what I told my kids and I am sticking to it...lol)
But I do think that borderline people if we would do it moving and eating right we could lose weight and get back on track. And that is what I am going to try and do. I take to many pills now. At least my A1C is good.
Del and I have never been able to keep things from each other.....if he trys someone is bound to mention what he kept from me and he hates to be caught.....so it is easier not to.......I had a friend that would have this new something or other and she will say,.....Oh that I bought a long time ago and never wore it much.....just came across it in the closet....and her husband would just nod like .........OH.......
I have never done that....lol
But we do have our OOPS times. Like OOPS I broke YOUR egg while cooking it or if a tshirt or shorts has a hole I will pull it apart and say OOPS I think it is done for. The reason I think he is getting it finally. He counted the ts he had just in one drawer and it came to 23. That was not what was in the wash and in other drawers I know he has at least twice that many......
The other night he took his shower and came into computer room and said OOPS I think these are done for.......and he had a pair of shorts that he had pulled the band off of......lol.... if I have a bra on that the strap falls down all the time he will get the sicssors when I take it off so I just drop it off in the trash......LOL......
