I've had artificial nails or tips put on twice. I loved the look, but couldn't get accustomed to typing and playing the piano with nails (I've spent my life with short nails). If you have long nails , how do you deal with typing, etc. issues?

I have gel nails and I suppose some people would call them long but I don't think they are. I tell her to cut them down every time I go in so they look more natural. I don't have any trouble typing at all. I still type with the pads of my fingers...not the tips of my nails.

Jacquie, I can't do anything with long nails either. Like Blu, I have them do mine as short as possible without taking away from the nice look.

Guess I should first work on typing with the pads of my fingers. Probably a lost cause to relearn at my age :)

Pam,
Glad to know I'm not the only one who can't pat & rub - LOL. DH reminded me of the last time I had gel nails put on and got so frustrated I just went to the nearest nail shop to have them removed a week after they went on. My DM had the most beautiful nails all her live, took care of them herself. As soon as mine grow long, I manage to bang into something and crack it - right next to the skin. Even if I decide to do it, I'd better wait until Spring gardening is done - just noticed dirt under some of my longer nails.

Silly gurl...gel nails are pretty much the same as acrylic nails but easier on your nail beds and much more sturdy. They just put a coating over your own nails to make them stronger. I wear gloves when doing dishes (no electric dishwasher in this house) and gardening. They last from 2-3 weeks before I need a touch-up.

My own nails have always been very weak (just like my very fine thin hair) and I've never been able to grow them. Thus, fake nails.

Long nails are not all that. I think that gently shaped nails are prettier and sexier anyway. If you have your nails done (I am from Nebraska and I have never done that...lol) try that they are short enough to type and long enough to be pretty.

When I was younger and had very strong nails I wore them long. But then when they started chopping them straight across and painting them white under the ends I was glad that I didn't have long ones anymore. I really think "French" nails are very unattractive. I also think that pedal pushers or whatever they are called make people look stubby too but then they are "IN" so no one cares what they look like.....lol

A friend of mine is a hair dresser and she does nails too and I have seen womens hands that have worne false nails for a long time I they are so bad. And someone told me that once the bed is messed up your nails don't come back or don't come back nice....wouldn't be worth it to me.

I was going to comment on your purse thing but everyone knows about me and purses.......lol
