Dh and I are home 1900 miles later.

Dh and I left last Thursday on the motorcycles for Key West.  It was either very hot or raining very heavy.  This was not the best trip we have been on.  It was ok as far as vacations go.

Our first stop was St. Augustine. It's such a pretty city. Found a really nice hotel. Next stop was Daytona to check out Rossmeyers Harley Davidson complex. Then it was on to New Smryna Beach and Titusville to visit relatives.  We spent the night in Melbourne.  The next day we ended up in Florida City. This meant we were only 125 miles from Key West.

We finally made it to Key West.  Did the touristy things, spent the night and was ready to head home.  We took off Tuesday morning by 9am, destination home.  By the time we got to the 7 mile bridge it was pouring rain. For the next 100 miles it rained. By the time we made it to the Florida Turnpike the sun was finally coming out. It didn't take long to dry out.  It was back to hot again.

We made it through the turnpike and all the tolls, then through Alligator Alley. I had already came to the conclusion that we are north Florida people. I was very glad to finally start putting South Florida behind me. We spent the night in Sarasota.  Nice little spot, but was 475 miles from home.  Could we do that in one day? We would find out the next day.

It was a hard 475 miles, but we did it.  The last 30 miles was questionable because we ran into a SEVERE thunderstorm. Luckily, we pulled into a small country store. The guy told us to take the bikes around back to a covered area. He let us wait it out in the back room. Boy, it poured. We really felt like a possible tornado was close.  After about 45 minutes the rain slacked off enough for us to go the last 30 miles home.

Home never looked so good. My garden was twice it's size, the grass was thick and lush, and I had flowers in full bloom everywhere. I wasn't as tired as I thought I would be, but it had been a hard ride home.

Yesterday was spent not doing a whole lot. Cleaned a little bit, stocked up on groceries, and caught up online. I was thankful we had made it home safely.

I told dh I don't want to get off that far from home on the bikes ever again.  It was mostly a hard ride and not that enjoyable. We did meet some really nice people along the way. It seems like we had the good Lord's hand guiding us all the way with the way things worked out and we made it safely home.

You know, when DH and I travel, and it's raining, we'll see people on motorcycles, and say, "those poor people."

You and dh are right BB, no fun riding in the rain. It's pretty cold and the visibilty is limited due to no windshield wipers. But once the sun came out, I really enjoyed it. But then it got really hot. Thanks for the welcome back.

Yes Pam motorcycles hydroplane too. In fact, when we stopped at the store mine almost hydroplaned right out from under me. Luckily, I wasn't running that fast and reacted quickly enough to finally stop and turn in.

Yes Jill when I said bikes it means I ride my own. I have a Harley Softtail. I think this will be the last trip I make on a bike for that many miles. Hard to believe, we rode almost 500 miles the last day and I wasn't even tired when I got home. Just that glad to be home feeling.

You know they do have bike classes and they will teach you to ride on a smaller bike.

Pat it was an adventure. We had Garmins on both bikes. Now that is adventure traveling. We don't know how to travel without them now. They do so much in helping find hotels, food, and gas, oh and sometimes helps us find our way home.

I've been trying to catch a ladies' riding class at a Harley dealership, but they're usually during the week and the nearest one is over an hour away. So.... just more practice I guess.

SO has a Fat Boy that's our usual ride, and a Sportster 1200 that he's lowered for my short legs. I've actually only "piloted" the Fat Boy a coupe of times with him 'helping' from the passenger seat. Got a long way to go before I ride on my own! This may sound funny but I'm buying a bicycle next week, for exercise of course but also to help with my balance which isn't the greatest.

Hey, have ya'll ridden the Tail of the Dragon in Tenn/NC? That's on our 'wish list' - I will definitely be a passenger on that ride no matter how much I learn between now and then!! lol
