Bad storm...lost power for 20 hours!

We had a really bad storm blow through here yesterday afternoon between 3:30 - 4:00 p.m. I was taking my lunch break at work and spent most of the 1/2 hour staring out of the west facing window with another gal watching this huge storm. Our lights at works flickered but the computers didn't go down. But when I got home my garage door wouldn't open...that was my first clue. I started to look around the neighborhood and noticed that the only lights you could see were the outside solar lights people had in their yards...not good.

The power remained off all night and all morning too. I had a dental appointment at 10:00 so I just threw on some capris and a shirt and went. The I did errands and headed home. I felt bad for my next door neighbors who were having a big graduation party today for their son. I talked to the DH this morning and he said, "don't talk to Tracy...she's nearing meltdown!" She had all the party food in the refrig. and was so sure she was going to lose it.

When I got home around 1:00 p.m. the power was back on. I guess it came on around noon...TG. I never did open the "food museum" (freezer) in the garage but I think by doing that everything stayed frozen.

All I know from this experience is that I would not have done well living on the prairie w/o my electronics and modern conveniences...even it it WAS with Michael Landon running the ranch! LOL Well...maybe...

My bff and I went to see the movie "Killers" this evening...it was fun.

Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon and meeting up with Deb and her family in the City...if the weather cooperates. I have to take the train downtown and it takes 1 hour 20 mins. one way for me.

The one thing about losing power is we learn what we did before computers. Of course it's always better if it's close to bedtime, but then other times it's fun to light the candles or lanterns. I hope your neighbor was able to get

I'm glad you survived the storm with no damage other than that power outage.

Right now it looks like Deb's train is running a little over a 1/2 hour late so I'll take the 3:00 p.m. train to the City instead of the 1:00 p.m. train. It's going to cut our time together a little short unfortunately but at least I'll get to meet everyone and we'll catch dinner somewhere.

They will come into Union Station and their hotel is about 5 blocks from there. My station is about 3 blocks from their hotel so I'll just walk over there and meet them at their hotel. We are thinking about heading over to Navy Pier and going to Harry Carry's for dinner but we'll have to see how we are on time. I wish the water taxi was running up the river on Sun. but it only runs Mon. - Fri. to take the commuters from the train stations up to Michigan Avenue.

I agree...Union Station is really an amazing place. Kind of like Union Station in Washington, DC...a destination all in of itself. Fun and beautiful place to wander. People actually have weddings there!

Glad you didn't get hit as hard as we did by that storm. It was scary!
