My bff got tickets to The Moody Blues concert (last night) for our birthdays (last month). They are my all time favorite band so I was very excited to see them again.
It was SO awesome. I really thought I'd never see them again live because I could never get anyone to go with me when they came through this area. It's like I'm their only fan. Well...not last night!! Holy cow! It was a sea of people as far as the eye could see. The venue (Ravinia Park) has a small covered pavilion with comfy cushioned seating and then acres of lawn seating where people bring in picnics and set up tables, chairs, candles, fine china, wine, etc. and have their dinner and listen to the concert. Then there are those who just bring in either blankets or lawn chairs (like we did) and squeeze in where you can and enjoy the concert. I mean...it was sold out and there wasn't a blade of grass showing! Anyway...at one point Merri stopped a man (about our age) and asked him to take our picture. He and his wife were very nice and every time they went out for another glass of wine or to the bathroom or something they stopped and chatted with us. He said that after intermission people start leaving (because it's a parking nightmare there) and you can usually "cop" someones tickets into the pavilion. I said, "well, if that happens don't forget us!" (Just joking) Sure enough, after the intermission tons of people left (I couldn't believe they would come and stay for only 1/2 of the concert) and this guy comes over to us with 2 pavilion tickets and says, "Section 17"!! Merri said, "we can't just go in there with our lawn chairs...you go, you're the bigger fan." I said,"heck no, pack up the chair, we're getting in there!" Reluctantly, she did and they let us in but asked us to just put the chairs along the back railing. She was so worried those dumb chairs were going to get stolen. (they didn't) We got into the box and enjoyed the rest of the show dead center!!! It was awesome!! We took the train up to the park and back down to Merri's house so we didn't have to battle the traffic mess at all. Also...the weather cooperated!! The rain (monsoons) finally stopped for the day and night...we were so lucky.
I'm still on Cloud 9!!

I can see it all in my mind's eye.
"Your" city is so beautiful, but I can't believe you didn't get into mass traffic after the concert.
Wow Blu sounds like you and Merri had an awesome time. Such a good birthday present for you both. Also,
Thank you...yes, Chicago is beautiful in the summer. We're very proud of it. The winter on the other hand, not so much...except at Christmas when Michigan Avenue is lit up end to end in white Italian lights. It's spectacular. Other than that you can have it in winter. LOL
Merri and I didn't take the El we took Metra (the regular choo choo train). There's a stop in her town and a stop right at the venue...very convenient. I don't know why anyone would drive and get in that traffic mess.
One funny thing was the people watching. As you can imagine, the crowd to see the Blues was mostly around our age...some younger but I'd say the majority were members of AARP. We got there at 7:00 and the concert started at 8:00 so there time to do some great people watching and commentary (we're good at that). LOTS of people with canes, bad hips and limping, hearing aides and wearing bandannas and tie-dye! LOL Merri's classic comment was "it's like watching people limping home from war!" LOL TG she and I were still able to get up and dance and act stupid!
I'm so glad you got to see them live one more time, Blu.
Blu, what a nice birthday present!

You know, I think she was concerned about them because her late DH had purchased them. (Just another "attachment" she hasn't let go of yet.) I didn't think about that at the time. No, she didn't let it stop her from having a good time...she was rockin' out right next to me.
When we were out walking her pup, Coco, yesterday a.m., she was telling all the neighbors we ran into what a great time we'd had. A couple years ago I had bought us tickets for our birthdays to the Cher concert.
We can have fun doing nothing.
Moody Blues! OMG! You lucky Gal! I have loved them forever! And then you met a nice guy who got you center front!
I am so jealous! lol:)
