More luteal phase questions...

Hi everyone,

I just read through the discussions on luteal phases under 'ladies in waiting.' My question is, what is defined as a short lp? TCOYF says the LP has to be at least 10 days. When is it considered a problem... less than 10, or right at 10?

Please take a look at my charts... I'd never considered that LP might be whats causing us to not get pg... maybe this is why?

Thanks!

Kristen

Hi Kristen,

I read that a 10 day LP is fine in TCOYF too. But, I also read in TCOYF that if your LP is less than 12 days it might be a problem. A couple of weeks ago I asked about my LP on this board - mine's 11 days - and some people said it's a problem while others said they got pg on a 10 day LP. I called my dr and they weren't very helpful. Told me to try for 6 months and then they'll talk to me. So, I switched dr's but by the time I went to my new dr I found out I was pg.

If I were you, I'd call your dr and talk to them about your LP. Hopefully they'll have you come in to check your progesterone levels. Why wait when you know it might be a problem. Worse comes to worse, you're fine and you're just making sure.

GL to you!

Hi there,

I also have a short LP and my dr prescribed progesterone suppositories for me. I start using them just after O, and it really helped. Last month was the first time I used them. Normally, my LP is only 8 or 9 days. Using the progesterone, it incresed to 16 days.

Good luck to you. I think an LP needs to be 10 days or more. HOwever, I got PG with my son 2 years ago even with a short LP no problem - but either way, I'd recommend talking to your doctor. Progesterone is an easy solution.

Jennifer

And Jessie - how are you? Good to see you are still checking in to this board! Hope you are doing well.

I have a short luteal phase too! I'm also on LP10days. We've been trying for 4 months and I'm talking to my doctor today to see what else we can do. I want a longer LP. I think I've had implantation spotting for a couple of months, but I start a super heavy AF about 2 days later. I O really late in my 24 days cycle too around CD14-16. So, I'm not sure if anything will ever stick!

I also read TCOYF and it really opened my eyes. My doctor also was more willing to speak to me since she knows I use FAM.

I'll let you all know what I found out later today!

Good Luck to all!!

Thanks for all of your advice! I've been putting off calling my dr. She told me at my last physical (in Dec.) when we talked about us TTC that I would need to wait a year to discuss any problems with her. Of course at that time, I also believed I'd get pg within a few months.

I think AF might be on the way now, so I'm holding out until next week to call for an appt.

I am always hopeful that the *slight* spotting I have around day 8 is an implantation sign, but it always ends up turning into big fat AF two days later.

So we'll see.... most likely I'll be calling my dr. Monday.

I'm afraid when I call that they won't give me an appt. I'm tempted to lie and tell the front desk people I have some weird problem and need to be seen ASAP just so I can get in there. When I scheduled my yearly physical, it took 4 months to get in!!!

Thanks again! I'm looking forward to hearing what your dr. says Cathy!

Yeah!! My doctor is going to see my after my next cycle!! She says that my luteal phase is definitely too short. I'm going to have blood work done and then a ultrasound of my fallopian tubes to see if they're okay. My doctor apparently believes in setting a protocol and developing a plan to help everything along.

You might want to look at another doctor.

Good Luck.

Yay Cathy!!

I posted this in a different thread (don't know why) but after reading your post, I went ahead and scheduled a dr. appt. I go to see her a week from Tues. I'm so relieved to get in, but in the same token, so scared to find out something horrible. I kinda lied to get in (didn't tell the appt. lady EXACTLY how long we'd been trying... just the date of when I went off the pill) I figured, she didn't need to know too much info. just to enter me into the computer.

What all did you do at your first appt? Did you have a physical exam, or was it just consultation? I'm so nervous....

Keep me posted on what your dr. tells you! I'm so happy for you!!!

Sorry, I'm butting in on your conversation, but what is FAM? I want my DR to know I'm learning and working hard for it, too! ")

It's the Fertility Awareness Method from "Taking charge of your Fertility". Basically, the author talks about charting your BBT, CM, and Cervical position during the month. This way you know what is your most fertile time and if you're ovulating. The book also talks about PMS, menopause, and other things that affect women. I really enjoyed reading it. I think there is a link to the website on the top of the TTC board here at parentsplace.com. It's amazing what you learn about your body when you chart everything. I even found out that I get pimples during the same 5 days in my cycle each month!!
