Hi ladies,

Ally here, graduate of this awesome board...my sister just had a blood trest done that showed she has high prolactin level..which basically means she is not ovulating properly (usually pg or breastfeeding women have high level) This can be caused by various things i am told...Anyone have this and have it go away with medication or anything else? She retested today to verify level.

Thx in advance, ally

I had problems due to high prolactin. I had just given birth and it took a few months to get the prolactin out of my system I guess. I didn't do anything... it just eventually left. It was troublesome though. My temps bounced all over and my LP was so short I wasn't even sure it was a real LP.

I hope the prolactin goes down for her soon.

Hi Ally,

My friend was TTC for over a year, and found out she had high prolactin levels. Her RE prescribed some medication, and she was pg. soon after that. She now has a healthy 1 yr. old little girl. She's pg. with #2, and conceived the first month with no medication. She said that once the medication helps you get pg. the first time, it's usually corrected for future pregnancies.

I wish your sister the best of luck!

Oh my, is this a common problem? Can you only find out from a Dr. if you have high prolactin? What exactly does it do?

Hi Cassie,

I'm not sure how common the problem is. You can find out your prolactin level from a simple blood test. Prolactin levels are normally high in women who are nursing. High prolactin levels in women who are not nursing can cause infertility because their hormones are not in sync. I think one of the symptons is secretion of fluid/milk from your nipples (sorry, if TMI).

Hope this helps.

Wow, I certainly did not know that--thanks for sharing! Now if I ever get leakage from my nipples, I'll be able to make an educated guess about what's going on instead of totally freakin out! Well, I might do that too! Thanks again.
