I'm trying to get pregnant again. The good news is that it was successful the first time, I have a wonderful 10 month old daughter Lydia.

We started trying in May 2001 and finally got pregant at Christmas that year. It was a frustrating wait, but I'm sure many have had far more frustrations.

I tried charting my basal temperature that year. I was very good about taking my temp before getting out of bed each morning. The readings were all over the scale, no pattern whatsoever. My doctor looked at it and said it was normal, that few women followed the pattern it was supposed to show.

In 2001 my period schedule was irregular but mostly started around day 23 or 24. This year I'm even more irregular, from 23 to 31 days. It's so hard to try and know when to have sex! The first time it was 31 days was the first return of my period after Lydia's birth, I thought it would settle down, but the most recent one was 31 days as well. 6 months of tracking so far.

I'm still breastfeeding a little bit, but trying to wean. She only feeds before naps and night time so it's not a lot but it's hard to stop. Would this be having a big effect on my getting pregnant again?

And I've been wondering ever since I saw the reference, why Aunt Flo???

There's a lot of acronyms to learn here, and I have read the two pages of them :-)

Here's hoping my time here is short!

Hi Kathleen,

Welcome! I hope your stay is short too. I've heard that breastfeeding can hamper getting pg, but then again, I've heard of people getting pg while breastfeeding -- before they had even gotten AF again. Speaking of which, I have no idea why AF, and I thought the acronyms were a little weird too when I first started lurking, but now they're second nature. I even have to stop myself from referring to sex as BD with DH because that would be a real turnoff for him!

Anyway, good luck and positive vibes!

Kathleen,

Welcome to the board. I hope your stay is short and sweet. I am ttc#2 as well. We are on cycle 4. I have heard different things about breastfeeding and pregnancy, but two of the women I know got pregnant while breastfeeding and one of them is still breastfeeding (she is due in Sept.)

Good luck to you.

Welcome to the board Kathleen, I hope your stay with us is a short and sweet one! Where in Canada are you living? (just assuming from your little flag that you are in Canada). I'm in Brampton- just outside of Toronto. I'm not sure about the effects of breastfeeding, but I beleive it does have an effect on your cycle. I'm sure there is someone else here who can help with that. If you come across any abreviations that you're unsure of don't hesitate to pop in and ask! Aunt Flo= you period ( aka AF)

GL to you!

That makes some sense, I just can't imagine some young boy overhearing his mother and sister discuss when her "Aunt Flo" is coming. How confused is he going to get?

Ah well :-) It was just something that surprised me when I first heard it.
