Hi, Nanthi. I'd like to help you with your question. I think you're wondering about the cervix, so that's what I am going to answer. You shouldn't be able to feel your uterus, but you can feel the cervix, which is the opening to the uterus. The cervix will be closed for most of your cycle, but will open around the time that you ovulate. The best position for checking it is squatting down with your knees apart. That brings the cervix close to the vaginal opening. You should angle your finger slightly backward toward your back and eventually you will feel something that feels kind of hard, like the tip of your nose. That's the cervix. As you approach ovulation, it will get softer and higher. After you ovulate, it will be lower, firmer and closed. When it's open, you should be able to feel the opening with the tip of your finger, but it won't be open widely, just a few millimeters. It takes a few cycles to get the hang of it because you learn by comparing how your cervix feels throughout the cycle. it's hard to know what's soft until you've felt it hard, if that makes sense. Just make sure you check it at the same time every day with clean hands. You also might want to search the internet for pictures of a cervix so you'll know what you're feeling for or buy or borrow a copy of the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Welschler, which has fantastic pictures and explanations. I hope this helps!
