Anybody else trying to quit smoking? (m)

I know it's a horrible habit, especially when TTC, but is there anyone else out there who smokes or who's trying to quit smoking? I am still smoking, but down to about 7-10 per day vs. a pack, like I used to be. My doctor told me that as long as I kept it under 10/day, she wouldn't give me grief. I DO NOT agree with this, BTW, I want to quit as soon as I find out I am PG, but I know it isn't going to be easy!!! I keep hoping that I will be like my mom - when she was PG with me the very smell of cigarette smoke made her extremely nauseous, so she didn't even think about wanting one the whole time she was PG. Just wondering if I was the only "bad" hopeful mommy-to-be. Please don't think badly of me! Any input is appreciated!

Thanks

Christy

Not trying, have! I know exactly where you are at. I just cut down for my first baby - to 1 or 2 a day at the end, and then started right back up. I hated myself every time I lit up. For this one I quit before TTC - just a coincidence really but knew I was going to get pg again sometime. The biggest myth about stopping smoking is that it is hard - it is actually reasonably easy - it's just that it is sooooo much easier to keep going. I'd love to be a support for you if you want it, and I promise I won't give grief, just hugs. Another great resource is Allen Carrs book - how to stop smoking permanately... helped me heaps, although I didn't apply the principles for a wee while ;o)

I just wanted to say that if DH is a smoker too, it can be of much help if you stopped smoking together. It worked for me amd my DH. I wish you success, it's gonna be great after that, you will see :)))

I am trying to quite myself. It is not as easy as I was hopeing for. I have cut down to about 10 to 12 a day instead of a pack. I have been eating lots of hard candy and have tried those eclipse cigs. They have been helping. They taste nasty so it makes you not want a cig for a while. Maybe that can help you guys to. Good luck to us all.

Thanks, everybody, for the support and advice! My DH does smoke also, and he really doesn't want to quit, but says he will try with me or at least not smoke around me. I have already cut back ALOT, but hope to be fully quit in the first couple of weeks of PG (if I'm still smoking at all when I get a BFP) I really just wanted to hear that there were other people in the same boat and that I'm not horrible for even thinking about TTC while still smoking! Kelly - what are Eclipse cigs? I've never heard of those. Shiwon - thanks so much for the kind words, I very well may email you sometime for help! I appreciate it! Good luck to everybody & have a great day!!

Hey Christy,

I am also trying to quit. And I am also trying to get down to less than 10 a day. I had quit a year ago for 4 months, then of course was a complete moron and started again. I keep telling myself how good I felt when I hadn't smoked and everything. I also do not want to smoke through another pregnancy like I did with my son. He was the perfect healthy baby, but I feel so guilty about doing something like that to him. But it is very hard. It is even harder than trying to stop using heroin(so I heard on Oprah), so keep on trucking!! Good luck!

Hi, I know exactly what your going thru. I'm also a smoker & i've tried everything (patched, Hypnotism, cold turkey, the gum). And nothing works, but as soon as i become pg I will quit FOREVER. When my sister got pg she quit, but 10 months later she picked it right back up again (moron).

I know this was not much help, jus wanted to let ya know, u aint the only one :-)

Good luck & baby dust :-)

Unfortunately, I quit once and started again, too. I quit for three months and really did feel beter, but I picked them up again for some reason still unclear to me! The first time I picked one back up, it even felt strange in my hand - I should've put it right back down then & there! I have also heard that it is harder to kick than heroin, but that doesn't seem very encouraging! I just hope, like I said before, that when I KNOW I'm PG, the mommy-hormones and God will kick in & help me put them down for good. Not only do I want a healthier pregnancy for the baby, I also want a healthier mommy for him/her, too! Good luck & baby dust to all!
