Can they swim far enough?

Hi,

I don't want to sound gross here but I need some input. My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for almost six months now. No luck yet. I think it may have something to do with the following but maybe not: When he ejaculates he doesn't squirt out it just sort of dribbles down. Also there seems to be a very limited amount of semen...(He has been like this since I first met him) If the sperm doesn't go all the way up into me I am never going to get pregnant...He seems to ejaculate on the outer edge and lining of vaginal walls....Can the sperm swim that far? HOw much semen needs to be ejaculated? Do other men experience this? Do you think this could be the cause? We have decided to try for a year before we go visit a fertillity specialist, but I am being to get frustrated...

Thanks

Hmmm...that's a tough one. It sounds like he does have an issue of some kind. Perhaps he's blocked up in there a little bit? I beleive normal semen qty is something like one teaspoon(?)..not too much. If he's unwilling to see a specialist just yet, some things you can try for help: have him drink a strong coffee just before bding to give those swimmers an extra kick; try to have deepest penetration possible when ejaculation occurs; also (I know it's not always possible-lol) *try* to orgasm right after him~this helps pull the swimmers up through your cervix like a little mini tidal wave-heehee.

I hope this helps! GL to you,

Tara

I'm not sure how much fluid is normal or whether it is supposed to squirt or whatever. However, I don't think it would hurt any if you are feeling anxious to go have a sperm analysis done. Some doctors even recommend this after 6 months. If I were in your shoes, I would call my gyn and explain and see where she recommends you go to have one done. If DH doesn't like the sound of this, you can get sperm analysis kits online (but they are not a senseitve as the ones doctors use). Then, you would at least know whether his sperm was above or below a certain level and maybe that would convince him to get further testing done. Maybe you could convince him by buying an OPK for yourself and say you are testing too... I wouldn't wait another 6 months for no reason, especially if you're scared about this now- you won't be able to stop thinking about it! And yes, I'm pretty sure if he ejaculates in you and you have good cm, they can swim that far.
