How long will they live in CM?

I've always heard that sperm can survive up to 5 days in the fertile CM, but then I recently read that it's three. I can't remember the source of the article that listed the lifespan as 3 days, but I'm wondering what everyone else has heard...

I have read up to 5 and up to 3, depending on the source. I think they say up to 5 for those who are trying to avoid being pg (better to be extra cautious) and up to 3 for those TTC (better to BD closer to O).

Actually they can live up to 5 days depending on what your cervical mucous is like at that time. Most sperm die off within 24-48 hours. If you have EWCM or Wet CM then they can survive up to 5 days. It really all depends on where you are in your cycle. Believe me, they do live that long at least. My friend was TTC and she and her dh bd on a Sunday and she didn't O until Friday. He went away on the Monday after they bd, so there was no other time they could have conceived, and sure enough she got a BFP a few weeks later. HTH.
