OPK - 2 lines

I'm wondering about OPKs. I have 2 lines when I test, but the test line is lighter than the other. Could this mean that I have already ovulated? Or does it mean that I am close to ovulating?

Thanks for the help! Judy

Hi Judy. I've just fininshed my 2nd cycle using an OPK. The way mine worked was if the line that shows that you've done the test correctly is DARKER than your line, O is approaching but not yet that close. What the OPK's show you is that you will O within 24-36 hours of seeing 2 matching lines. So if your line is lighter, O should be approaching but you need to have both lines matching in darkness (or your test line being darker than the test indicator line). Then you'll know you should be BD'ing for about the next 3-4 days. I started using my OPK sticks about 3 days prior to when I suspected I would O (I knew this from charting BBT's and keeping track of the length of my cycle) and both times I used them got that dark, matching line right on schedule. Haven't had a PG yet in almost 2 years but before that I was charting BBT's and CM. If no pg this cycle, doctor says we'll go in and look for blocked tubes, a highly likely culprit. Sigh....Best of luck to you!

Hi~

How long have you been testing? Did you just start today? If so you probably will test darker tomorrow. I would be BDing now.... You LH surge is either beginning or ending. Depending on when you started testing, if you have been negative for a few days then you are probably just starting your LH surge and ovulation could be tomorrow or the next day for you, but if you just started testing today you could of missed your surge or you might be ovulating right now. Do you notice any cramping? or soreness in the small of your back? These are all typical signs of ovulation.

Hope that helps!

Hi! It's hard to tell if the surge is coming or going with a light line. Keep testing. You can even test a few times in a day if you're concerned about it. And if you never get a dark line it doesn't mean that you didn't O. Last month I only tested once a day (in the morning) and I never got a line that was darker than the control line. But according to a blood test I definitely O'd. I've heard that you have a better chance of getting the dark line later in the day, but I haven't tried that. Good luck to you!!!

Thanks, ladies! I started testing on CD 14, so I may have missed ovulation. I guess I won't know for sure unless I end up getting a darker line now. Oh well, better luck next month.

Thanks again though. And good luck!!!
