Ovulation Question

Hi, I'm a newcomer here. I first want to say what a great board this is. The women here are so supportive, I'm amazed.

I'm 35, and just now thinking about TTC #1. I've been feeling nervous about my age for awhile, but not quite feeling like I'm ready. I've been afraid that by the time I am ready, it will be difficult for me, so I think I may be looking for problems. I was on BCP for 8 years, and stopped last September, so almost a year ago. Prior to BCP, my cycles were always irregular and longer than the average (maybe 31-34 days). When first going off BCP, I started out at around 30 days (I had one that was 11, and wasn't sure if it was even a real cycle), but then came back in at around 29-31 days until the end of April. Then I had one that was 36, and the last one was 41 days. So then I became obsessed after reading that anything over 35 was considered long, and probably meant I was not ovulating (the internet can be a dangerous thing). I went to the doctor last week who said I was probably having a few non-ovulatory cycles and did not seem concerned, however I was really upset. He told me (at that time I was only on CD8) to get an OPK and start to test to see if I was ovulating. He took some blood to rule out anything like thyroid and something else related to lactating. I asked if it may mean I am ovulating very late, and he didn't think so, however I've read here that many do ovulate late. I was surprised later that he never mentioned charting temperatures. I bought the TCOYF book last year, without knowing how popular it was. I had it under my bed for when I was "ready", but never pulled it out until this week. Now I am obsessed. It's funny how you can go from "not ready" to "ready" when you're afraid something might be wrong. I have been doing the OPK since CD9, but nothing positive yet (CD15 today). I'm charting my temp every day, first thing also, but I find if I take it 5 times in a row, I get 5 different results, +- .3. Am I taking it correctly? I've tried a few different thermometers.

The only thing that I can think of that I did differently the last 2 months was that I began exercising regularly (at most 3 days a week). I always did work out regularly, but since being off BCP. I read that this could delay ovulation, but only for real athletes.

Also, in my 20's before BCP I used to get a lot of EWCM, however not since being off BCP, I do not notice anything very obvious, at least not externally. I am worried, probably very prematurely, since we have not even officially started TTC, however, I'm the crazy type who does lots of research, and tends to overanalyze.

I guess I'm just looking for support.

Thanks

I'm sorry you are having so much trouble with your body. I went of BCP in april and have been having crazy cycles since then, but I expected that. I have noticed as far as CM goes that if you take allergy med which I do CM is affected. I only noticed this because while I was on vacation last week, I didn't take my meds and had much more CM. Anyway just a thought. I hope you get your BFP very soon.
