HSG - Anyone has had this done?
| Wed, 07-30-2003 - 6:13pm |
I am getting a tube check up (HSG?) on Monday and wanted to know if anyone else out there has had one done. What is it like? What does the doctor do? Hurts? Side effects? I have heard that the chances to get pregnant are higher after it. Anyone knows why?
Any thoughts are appreciated!
Thanks and ++++ vibes for everyone.

I just had my HSG performed on Monday of this week. I agree with the previous two posts. Taking a couple Advils will help if you do experience cramping. I did not have any cramping during or after the procedure, but the radiologist said that most women do experience some cramping. They said that cramping doesn't necessarily mean that there's something wrong like tube blockage. She said that a women's uterus might start to contract just because of there's a foreign substance (the dye) entering it.
They set you up on the x-ray table, and basically have you lay down like during your GYN exam. After they have you set-up, then they insert the catheter in (that's how they get the dye through your cervix. Mine went smoothly...and it is very cool to see the dye flowing through your tubes. She had me lay on the table for about 5 minutes after the procedure so I could get my bearings.
I was back at work in an hour, and was fine the rest of the day. I wish you the best of luck with yours. I've heard that your chances of pregnancy increase in the 3 months following the HSG because the dye will flush and clean out your tubes, so that the egg and sperm travel more easily. I think that's why. I'm hoping it's true for both of us...fingers crossed :-)
Good Luck! Let us know how it goes. Here's some "Dye Flow Easy Vibes" for you.

I am really excited about it (hopefully increasing our chances to conceive!). We have been TTC for 12 months and see this as one of our last few hopes. I will keep you all posted.
Thanks again!!!
