when you O, do the spermies already have to be in there waiting for the egg, or if you BD after you O, can they still catch it? If so, how long do you have to get them in there to find the egg? Sorry for the stupid question.

Never a stupid question, April! It is best to bd before "O" and have the swimmers waiting. Your egg will only live for 12-24 hours whereas the sperm will live 2-5 days. It also takes approx 7-12 hours for the sperm to undergo a transformation to be able to penetrate the egg making it near impossible to convieve with a bd after "o".

GL to you!

Hi April

No *stupid* questions on here :)

From what I know, the egg only lives for about 24 hours after you O, and the sperm need approximately 12 hours to morph their heads to be able to penetrate the egg. So, your best chances, by far, are to BD ahead of time so that the sperm are primed, ready, and waiting when that little eggie comes down the tubes! I think it is possible to still catch it after O, but not very likely for most people. I hope this helps!

Cheers!

It is not a stupid question, no questions are stupid. This is coming from a teacher. HAHA. To be honest, I'm not sure. I have heard different things. I have heard that if you want a girl to bd 2 days before O and a boy the day of O. If you go by the OPK they say to bd when you get a positive result and you should O within 24 to 36 hours. So that would mean you should bd 24 to 36 hours before an egg is released. I'm starting to get confused. All of this Oing and bd, and cycles and what days my body is doing what is driving me crazy. I think if we just relax and let nature take it's course we would be better off. I wish I could take my own advise but I won't. I'm still obsesses. I have a dr. appt. in an hour I will ask and get back to you with an answer fom a professional.

Good Luck

Thank you all for your answers! The reason I ask, is because according to FF, it is looking like I O'd on CD12, which we did not BD on, nor did we on CD11. However, we did BD at 5 in the morning on CD13, so I was wondering if those swimmers would catch an egg already in progress? Thank you all for your help, I'm not too sure I liked what I heard (lol) but we will see! and Stacey... yes, let me know what you heard from your Doctor!! Thanks!
