Does thermometer type matter?

I went out and got a flexible digital thermometer yesterday that ended up not even turning on at all this morning so I've missed yet another day of charting. Now I'm wondering if the type of thermometer you use matters? Can I just use any kind at all? One safety kit that I got as a gift for my dd after she was born came with a cheapie digital and I'm thinking of using that. Would that be OK or do I need some special "basal" thermometer (whatever that means)? And if I start temping tomorrow (for the first time ever!) that would be 2 days after AF ended. What do you all think the chances are that I would still be able to tell if I O this cycle... Thank you for ANY input!!!

Some say a regular thermometer is ok but I would rather be safe than sorry and

go by what my dr. says and use a bbt (Basel Body Thermometer). I believe the bbt will register temps lower then a normal thermometer. You are not to late since AF has just left. Make sure you take your temp at the same time everyday and before you get out of bed or have any activity. The website FertilityFriend.com has a handbook that is

very useful and you can get a 30 day trial of charting for free. Hope this helps some.

Good Luck.

Thanks a lot, that does help! So can you get the BBT's anywhere (like at Wal-Mart or a drug store?) or do I need to order them from somewhere? And after the 30 days on Fertility Friend, do they start charging you to chart? I had the impression that charting there was always free but I guess not...

You can probably get the BBT anywhere. The one I'm using, I got from Eckerd Drugs. It was near the pharmacy and has a light on it that is really helpful for me since my room is pitch black when I do temp. It also came with a 30 day free trial of TCOYF software for charting.

The FF charting is always free, you just won't get all the special features that you do when its paid for or in the 30 day trial.

Good luck charting and don't hesitate to post it when you have questions.

Thanks a lot for the advice ladies! I've been to he!! and back trying to get a stupid BBT since very few places around here have them and the 2 I FINALLY found DON'T WORK!!!!!!!! But I'm going out one more time tonight to try again and then that's it! I'll just use a regular if this doesn't work. All I gotta say is, after all of this trouble, I BETTER O this cycle and I better get preggo, so wish me luck, LOL!! Thanks again.
