Aspartame while TTC?

I read an article yesterday on Aspartame (sugar substitute) that talked about its effects on joints, muscles and much more etc. Some people were not able to even walk on their own while using this product. I haven't really seen any discussion here about its effects on TTC and wondered if this is something we all should avoid?

Anybody know anything about this?

Thanks,

I am no expert, but I remember reading in one of my many pregnant books that you should not have it while pg. I am not sure about ttc. Anyone know anything??

I stopped and had to reply when I saw this. I am a bit biased but my MIL blames aspartame for MS like symptoms she's had to deal with. Now I don't know if it's so or not. But, she has serious equilibrium problems that could be due to this stuff.

I personally avoid it best that I can. I would definitely do so if TTC. But that's just me. I'd rather stick to natural sugar from Mother Nature.

Thanks Logan and Christine,

My DH has been having alot of aches and joint pains. He was drinking like a gallong of Crystal Light a day not to mention the blue packets of sugar in his coffee. I drink more water than anything but do have 1-2 cups of coffee a day (some decaf) and will start using real sugar.

They told me not to take it while being PG, this was the OB and the dietian. I know its not safe to take while being PG, I would think the same is true while ttc.

Yesterday I came across a great article about Aspartame for my DH's boss. Here is the link:http://presidiotex.com/aspartame/

If this substance is making healthy non pregnant people ill I would advise not to consume any of it period. In the article it talks about how it can make people ill with symptoms similar to Multiple Sclerosis. I'll keep looking for articles on it's effect with TTC but I would stay away from it if I were you. It's better to be safe than sorry, especially when you are ttc.

Thank you Claire! That is a site I had not seen yet and it has information on eye problems which my Mom has. She uses the blue packets of sugar in her coffee (5 packs per cup and she drinks like 4-6 cups a day!) This information is important for me while TTC but my mom who is 70 yrs old and has had catarac surgery and is in pain daily from her eyes and her doctors haven't a clue why they hurt.

Maybe this will give her the push she needs to get off of it completely.

(((hugs)))
