Best time (of the day) to take OPK?
| Fri, 08-29-2003 - 1:15pm |
I got pg in May on the 1st try (but had a m/c in July) and DH and I have just started trying again. It doesn't appear positive for this month (no AF but no BFP either). I'm already thinking about next month (it's the only thing I can do to keep sane). Anyway, I'm not a charter yet (it happened so easily the first time, I thought I'd get lucky again) so I don't have a clue how to keep track of all the temps and stuff. My first thought for next month would be to use Ovulation Predictor Kits. My question is, what is the best time of the day to take them? I've heard that FMU might give false positives so does anyone have a better suggestion? Afternoons? Same time each day, right? Does anyone have any success stories to report after using them?
Sorry for all the questions.

I used OPKs and was pg the second month I started using them. They really helped me a lot, so I'm an advocate! I always tested when I got home from work, around 5pm. Yes, you should test the same time each day. They say it's best if you haven't had much to drink a few hours before, and you're right...FMU is not the best for these becuase the LH builds up in your system and typically peaks in the PM (at least that's my understanding...anyone feel free to correct if I'm wrong!). Anywho...I was a crazy tester and started pretty early before O. Each day the line would get darker, and then finally it would obviously be as dark (or darker) than the control. One month I only had one + OPK, and the second month I had a + OPK two days in a row...that's not that uncommon because you can catch the very beginning and end of the surge and get two +s. Well, I hope this helps...but I also hope that you get your BFP and don't have to worry with the OPKs!!!
Good luck sweetie!

One more question for you: you mentioned that you were a 'crazy tester' and started way before your estimated O-date. (I plan to do the same thing by the way). Anyway, you said your line kept getting darker and darker until it was finally the same (or darker) than the control line. Is THAT when the test is considered positive? In other words, it's not like pregnancy tests in that if you see a line, ever so faint, it's positive?
I just want to make sure I'm reading them right. This is going to be the cycle, I can just feel it! (Well, assuming my HPT tomorrow is BFN, which I have a feeling it's going to be...)
THANKS SO MUCH!!!
