Trusting OPK ???

Hi! My name is Dana and we're TTC #2. I went off BCP at the end of July, and had a normal AF on 9/3.

I am on CD 16, and have yet to see a + OPK (I've been testing since CD8 b/c of the recent stopping of my BCP). However, for the past 2 days, I've seen a faint line, and yesterday, I felt cramping, my bbs felt fuller, I had tons of CM, and was "in the mood" to BD!! Today, the surge line on the OPK didn't show anything, not even a faint line.

Is it possible that I still O'd without a +OPK? I read an article that someone posted here about OPK not being 100% reliable. I don't chart/take temps, so I was using the test to see if I am O'ing since I so recently went off the pill. I know when we conceived my DS (19 months), once I got AF the first time I was pretty regular, and it took 2 months.

MY DH and I can't BD until tonight; we BD's last Sunday on CD12. I feel like I missed a window of oppurtunity.

But I'm not sure I even O'd....I guess I'm looking to see if anyone has this experience of O'ing w/o it showing up on the OPK.

TIA,

Dana

I only used OPK for 1 cyccle last month and I did not have enough of them to catch my O--I am telling you this to let you know I am not an expert. But when the OPK did not indicate O last month...I did some research...

If you only tested once per day, it is possible that you missed your "peak" hormone levels. The faint line you saw may have picked up some of the hormone, but not enough for the full effect. Also, if the hormone was diluted in lots of urine, it may not have had a high enough concentration to indicate. After O is done, the tests will register negative. My guess is that O occurred around the time of your faint tests, and was done by your next negative. Temping would have told you the full story. If you are still ttc by your next cycle, add it. It is good for peace of mind (if you are the obsessing type like me!)Bd on sunday would have still put you in range for conception. With #1, we BD only once about 4 days before O. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info! I was guessing that was the case; the lines got darker, but never as dark as the control line. Today, there was barely a line at all, so I'm guessing I O'd.

Hoping for a BFP for us both soon!

Hi Dana,

Keep in mind also that coming off BCP, your homones take a while to regulate. All of the other O symptoms you have been seeing may just be due to an estrogen surge. EWCM doesn't always mean O, so if you can stand to, I would keep doing the OPK for a few more days and see what happens.
