Using opk's as hpt's?
| Sun, 09-21-2003 - 1:17am |
Hello all,
I have been reading that some of you are using opk's as hpt's. Can you tell me about that? I would appreciate any info. I am doing the 2 week wait and trying to keep my mind occupied. Luckily I'm in school and have 3 big exams over the next 3 weeks, so that will keep me very busy. I never thought I'd be happy to have exams!

Lots of sticky vibes to all!!

Let me start by saying: I wasn't purposly trying to use opk's as hpt, this was the first cycle that I did this so I have no history to back it up, I had two boxes so I used them and I'm not sure if I'm pg (I'll wait for af to be overdue and have my doc to tell me that). But here's my story:
I stated using the opk's on cd 9. On cd 9 & 10 they were -. On cd 11 it was +. FF said I o'd on cd 11 as well, which I thought was too early, so I continued to use them thinking that my temps would lower and I would o later as usual. I got 8 + opks over the next several days. I had read in other post that opk's pick up the same hormone that hpt's look for and that gradulally the test line would be darker than the control line. So on cd 17 (7 dpo) I tried a hpt and got a +. I've done 3 other hpt's, all different brands, all +.
Like I said, I'm not sure if I'm pg, but that's my story for now.
Hope it helps and good luck with both the ttc and the exams.

Thanks for your post. I'm still confused. opk's detect LH and hpt's detect Hcg. The 2 hormones are both pysiologically similar, but I didn't think they were chemically similar. Very interesting in your case though.
I hope you get good news from your doc, but it seems like congratulations are in order. Can't wait to see your post in BFP down below!

Thank you so much for the link. It was very interesting. This clears up a lot of confusion.
