Hypothyroid'ers.... questions

I was diagnosed several years ago, and have since been stabilized. My ob/gyn and internal med practioner seem to be happy with where I am. I plan on calling my general doc on Monday to discuss my numbers in further detail. But, was curious.... where are everyone's TSH levels? Is this the most important number to be concerned with?

Any thoughts from those of you who have been pregnant before? How long did it take you to get your BFP?

Stephanie,

My TSH shifts a bit with the seasons, but I try to keep it as close to 1.0 as I can, as I have been told that between 1-2 is ideal for ttc.

One of the things that I have also been told to pay attention to is the fact that because my thyroid issues are from an autoimmune disorder (Grave's disease ) that I may produce antibodies that can attack a pregnancy if not dealt with early. If you had either Graves or Hashimoto's then you might want to check into this as well.

As for conception, well, so far it's a no go. i have been off bcp's for 4+ years, and actively ttc since July of 07. No one knows for sure why it's taking so long. No one has pointed directly to the hypothyroidism (I think it's my tubes), so hopefully I am not a good guideline to look at. Best of luck to you.

Hi Stephanie!

I've been hypo for about 12 years. What I've seen (and you may want to try to Google it just to make sure) is that our TSH should be between 1 and 2 for conception. Mine were 1.something. They'll need to monitor your levels throughout pregnancy since the baby will be using your thyroid until their endocrine system is developed. I saw an endo last week who recommended we move me off the generic synthroid and back to Levoxyl or a brand name because it is recommended during pregnancy due to formula differences. I'm still waiting to hear what my T3 and T4 levels were.

As long as our levels are under control and we take our meds, I don't believe that should be an obstacle to conceiving!

Good luck!

Just wanted to say that I conceived my daughter while having hypothyroidism and a whole host of other medical problems. I was diagnosed 17 years ago.

I do know if it is too low it can keep you from conceiving...just make sure your levels are monitored, and the pp all had good advice. :) Best of luck to you.
