I had one Mc at 6 weeks before my DD and was tested for levels when I got mys econd BFP. My level was at 9.8 which the doctor was not going to supplement because I was only 3.5 weeks pregnant she said but I asked for the pills anyway. Of course you can see my DD in my siggy so she came out fine :). With the second BFP I got tested at 4 weeks 3 days and my level was 12.9 so still low as I heard anything over 20 is good when pregnant. So I was supplemented with this one also and shes now 22 weeks with no problems so far :). I would say as long as you start supplements the day you get a BFP you should be fine. Some doctors will even prescribe them for you after you O. They say there is really nothing bad taht can happen from taking them so I would ask about it.
In part it depends on the values of the particular lab that your doc is using. at my RE's they are looking for 10 and above for an unmedicated cycle, and 15 and above on a medicated one. so at least at my RE's you'd be nicely in the healthy zone.
The short lp is definitely something to investigate though. Good luck in finding a quick answer and a healthy bfp!
My thought is, do you have problems with trusting this particular doctor? Maybe you need one you can trust and believe. My OB says 13 is fine, so there ya go.
Also, it's a tiny increased risk of having twins with Clomid. For giggles, my mom had 8 children (at least 4 were Clomid babies), no twins.
The highest my progesterone got during the month was 14 which is "normal" according to my doctor but since that was the highest it got it does constitute a deficiency. He said that even when I'm not trying to conceive I should be on supplements following ovulation. For years I had many anxiety attacks and since starting progesterone pills they have virtually disappeared as has my PMS (my husband is thankful). I would recommend finding a doctor who is willing to give you supplements. I went through 3 doctors before finding one that I was comfortable with, and it makes a difference when you feel confident in the level of care you are receiving.
