Hi Sidney,

I had to have cortisone injections for a serious ankle injury when I was a professional athlete. I was not TTC at that time, but I can tell you that steroids, like cortisone, tend to stay in your body for a while. I had side-effects like water retention in my entire body for more than a month afterward.

I would definitely talk to your OB and find out if the cortisone could cause any complications. Also, I assume you have been doing physical therapy since your surgery. Perhaps changing your therapy routine might help. I have always found hydro-therapy very helpful, but everyone is different. Personally, I would only recommend the cortisone injections as a last resort.

Hope your hip improves soon and good luck TTC

i had hand surgery almost a year ago and when i was having to do the cortisone injection i was told not to get pg, so i was put on hold for 3 months. the dr said it can cause serious problems. so i didnt take the risk of trying it out.

Hi again,

Yes, I know what you mean. My OB's office is always, always, always busy! BTW, what Janet said about being put on hold after the cortisone injections makes a lot of sense... definitely get all the info you can before proceeding.

Just like MD's, PT's can be very different. I have seen many PT's for a variety of injuries... I was a professional ballet dancer for 9 years, in response to your question. I would recommend finding a PT who specializes in Sports Medicine. They typically have a much better understanding of joint disorders and how the body functions as a whole. Don't be afraid to tell your PT exactly what and how you are feeling... no one else knows more than you do!

I really do understand the pain! I have SO been there, and it makes life unbearable. MRI's can be very helpful for diagnosing joint injuries so keep pushing your MD for that if it is not getting better. Of course, after any surgery there is recovery time, but if you are still having significant pain (or if it is getting worse) you definitely need to some sort of intervention. I would suggest that you try another PT before you decide to do the cortisone injections. The injections did relieve my pain and swelling, but they did not heal my injury nor did they speed my recovery IMO.

Again best wishes,

Kris
